Hi. New to the forum so not sure where to post my enquiry, but for a bit of background and initial question, here goes.... After 6 years of living on a boat, I've returned, for a while, to dry land and unpacked my modest and very vintage hi-fi. PT too, MF B200, Arcam CD, Heybrook HB1. Things have moved on a bit though and I find that tellys no longer have a phono output and my elderly amp has no optical input. My speakers are either side of the telly and running the sound through my system seems an obvious route to enjoying music on YouTube and enhancing the watching of films. I'm not about to spend a fortune on upgrades, the downgrade of my hearing at this age makes the law of diminishing returns ever more applicable! Is a cheap Ebay DAC bought for pennies the answer or is there a more sensible way forward for sensible money?...And what about listening to Spotify through my system? Cheap bluetooth receiver? Be gentle with me, I know what forums are like.

Hi and welcome Gary. The one stop solution to your problem is a Wiim Pro, about £150 on Amazon. Optical input for tv, native Spotify connect, rca out to amp (+ optical & coax out should buy a dac later) and a brilliant intuitive App. I recently bought one for my 2nd system and its shocked me how good this little thing is. Yes, you, could get a <£20 dac and a cheapo Chifi BT receiver + Y lead (3.5 > 2 rca) but the sound via BT would be seriously shite.

Welcome Gary, I think the two options mentioned above are as good as it gets. Oh, and by chance one of our members is selling a Wiim Pro, some people just fall on their feet.

optical Your link doesn't go to your recommendation. Thanks Dave, now fixed. Think I was trying to link it from my 'previous orders' page . . . so obviously it wouldn't have worked. Cheers EDIT - forget that, its playing up somehow, damn technology . . . I'll sort it at some point, anyway it's a "Trasam M300 Dac Bluetooth Amplifier" if anyone wants to search for it . . . . I'll just get me coat . . .

Optical. Thanks for your valiant effort to post a link, but I have no plans to change the amp I had new caps fitted shortly before I packed it away and I quite like the way it sounds. Antonio. A member is selling a Wiim Pro?

gary955 Sorry Gary, my mistake, it was a tip off for an Amazon bargain at £127.

Hi Gary I disagree with Lurch, you can get excellent Bluetooth receivers these days for a tenner or so. I'm sure you can get shite ones as well, but the Amazon reviews usually sort the wheat from the chaff. I've a fair amount of experience as well. And a cheap dac would certainly see you started, and you may well not feel the need to upgrade it. No need to spend hundreds if you don't want to imo. Nice kit you have btw - olden but golden.
