We have recently had on trial a Network Acoustics Muon filter and 3 AES/EBU cables, Shunyata Delta and Alpha, plus the NA Muon. We didn't have much success with the filter, it did tend to smooth the sound, but robbing it of some energy/vibrancy and wasn't to our taste, maybe we like the 'added noise' Talking to the dealer yesterday, who'd been talking to the manufacturer said it was split 50/50 on those who found improvements to their systems using the Muon filter. My brother spoke to the manufacturer having a query with the Muon filter and he was very helpful. It was regarding which way round you used the filter, well in fact two reviews have had it the wrong way round although some preferred it this way, the correct way is with the attached short cable going to your streamer. On to the digital cables, in fairness we couldn't really couldn't tell much difference between the Delta and the twice the price Alpha so we quickly discounted the Alpha due to it's cost. The Delta was a great cable, tighter and more dynamic than our Gothic Audio cable (no slouch itself), but the Muon surpassed even the Delta with all the pluses and making the music sound even more fluid.

Thanks for the review Dave, interesting that opinions are split on the filter (although not that surprising). I think digital cabling especially comes down to a lot of factors, as you imply with your conclusion, a change in sound signature may suit some but not all systems/ears. The key here is to try before you buy and try as many as you can, what works for one man might sound awful in someones else's system/environment. I've had my eye on a few Shunyata cables actually. Not the cheapest (althoug certainly not the most expensive) but they seem to really deliver for most. Nice one.

After much toing and froing with AES/EBU cables (Shunyata Delta & Alpha and NA Muon) it is the Muon that now resides in my brother's system. We really couldn't hear much difference between the Delta and the Alpha, if there was a preference it was probably the cheaper Alpha. The Alpha was definitely a step up on the Gothic Audio cable (no slouch itself), giving a tighter more focused sound. The Muon cable did this, but added an easy flowing sense to the music. I will also have to put in a good word for the Melco C100 ethernet cable, not overly expensive in the scheme of things, which has replaced a standard lead between switch and streamer to good effect.

Small, progressive tweaks Dave. That's excellent, if you are coming from a place where you are 'tweaking' (to your preference) rather than 'searching' for any breakthroughs, the system is in a very good place in my opinion. I have found when a system reaches a certain level (of transparency/resolution) these cable comparisons can become more interesting and as ever it's not a 'one size fits all' or a 'this cable will be better than that', scenario.

Yes, that's the one. With the Muon and Melco cables in, my brother's system has never sounded better (ignoring the Arke speakers ). I never thought the system could be made less fatiguing and even more detailed, but that is what has happened.
