The Revelator 851 speaker build has begun! This will be constructed in a similar way to my Vaders: solid braced MDF with 3mm caramel veneer, Upper front baffle is fabricated from solid bamboo ply. The cabinets will be further damped with a 4mm bituminous damping and a damping felt. Upper baffle parts: All cabinet parts have been cut. This is the 'dry' test fit of the cabinet parts: The cabinet proportions look fantastic 'in the flesh'. The wider base provides the perfect volume for the 8" bass driver and the upper section (for the midrange and tweeter) is very slim and low profile. The overall impression is of a very sleek and compact floorstander. The compact looks will be deceiving though... The 5.5" midrange and 8" will give a big and captivating sound!

I was gonna invite you over for a listen to the Revelator 851s and Discovery 861s, however, time was simply too tight. They were only here for a few days, but I did sneak a fair few hours of listening in though! 😀

Anyway, you should be cracking on with the house refurb.......

Beautiful work Jason, and yeah, they sounded excellent as always.
If you are in the market for speakers, I can't think of a reason why you wouldn't get an audition of Troels speakers. Proper kit.
Well done on your success so far. I am sure there is more to come!

Beautiful speakers by Arke. Question: Jason said that the client was deciding between the Revelator 851 and the Ekta Mk2 and settled on the 851's. Can you say what criteria was used to decide between the two? I have the same dilemma myself and unfortunately, can't listen to either.
I currently have a pair of Sonus Faber Cremonia Auditor M's which I like a lot but think the Ekta's might do everything a little better.
regards,
Mike

The 851 have more refinement in the HF and have the ability to shift a bit more air in the LF due to the larger drivers. I was very impressed with Arkes 851 performance and build quality, and they only had a few hours on them when i heard them. I can imagine them being utterly stunning with some hours on them. I have also heard Arkes CNO-4 (Vaders) and the 851 had a lot more in common with them in terms of sonic characteristics and performance than the Ekta do. The Ekta are superb speakers, but the 851 a just a bit better IMO.

I currently have a pair of Sonus Faber Cremonia Auditor M's which I like a lot but think the Ekta's might do everything a little better. regards, Mike Hi Mike, thanks for the kind words. As Oli says, we compared the Ekta mk11s and Revelator 851s in Oli's system. I think it may have been the only side by side comparison to date! I don't think Troels has compared them in this way. I agree with Oli's comments - both speakers sounded fantastic, but the 851s definitely had more HF refinement and detail. The 851s bass was more effortless and (in Oli's room) had better controll and was deeper. I briefly measured both and the 851s go about 5Hz deeper at -3dB. The Ektas are exceptional, but the 851s are definitely worth the extra cost IMO. Let us know where you are based as it may be possible to hear either. Edit: The (851) client and I chose the 851s based on their musical preferences and what would suit their room best. Their room had strong fundamental modes which I believe would excite the Ekta's bass more (around the port tuning). The 851s have a deeper port tuning and suited their room better. The client expressed a preference for a little more bass weight and 'slam' which the 851's 8" bass driver deliver in an extremely compact cabinet.

Thanks you both for a clear and detailed response. I'm sold on the 851's.
BTW, I'm located in Oregon - across the pond as they say.

Ah, that is a bit too far to come to have a listen then I guess! I agree with all Jason has said. The speakers do completely disappear and you can be transported away to the recording being made. They are great speakers, and given the choice again I would make the same decision. And being as Troels has kept a pair for his listening room says it all really. I hope the build goes really well for you
