Has anyone seen the new Parks "Puffin" phono stage . . . . parksaudiollc.com/#nextI was aware of previous iterations and they always had a very good reputation, simple but effective and above all the majority of users were in full agreement that the SQ competed with stages that were considered pretty high end, relatively speaking. This new one basically has a built in DSP, it helps out with a 'tilt' setting, allowing you to dial in your azimuth, huge range of gain settings (-4 to 72db), mono mode, along with a whole host of other features. It even has an onboard ADC with Spdif out (coax or toslink). For the price it looks fairly unbeatable if you have a less than perfect vinyl setup, and even if you do, it has a lot of useful features. Personally I'd really love to hear/try one . . . . .

If anyone buys one and wants to allow me to measure it, I'd be happy to do so.
I'm thinking about starting an ASR style ranking system for Phonostages based on measurements.
Any appetite for something like that?

Why should all those using digital be left out ? Why not a similar list and measurement of DAC,s ? I would certainly have no problem in letting those I have be borrowed and tested .

It not an exclusion for digital owners....it's a capability issue. SNR of -100db is way more than enough to test any Phonostage, but almost every DAC available now would bottom it out very easily, and I am not spending £50k on an analyser for DACs.

Out of curiosity Oli what parameters of a phono stage would you measure and report on? Also would you be able to measure phono stages integrated in an amp? SUTs? E [edit] Oh dear I wanted to quote your message just before Andrew's.

Well, we'd be looking at the major things like SNR, THD+N, RIAA accuracy, probably an FFT, channel matching... then, possibly pretty much whatever we can garner from the measurement suite. Integrateds are a little trickier. Not impossible, but may require a little more test equipment expertise than I currently have. Luckily, I have experts at hand.
