OK, so a few weeks ago I was demoing a pair of Canton speakers, then a pair of ATC 40's, that idea had to be shelved as my partner of a few years was diagnosed with a lump. After some "private" investigations, it was diagnosed as Stage 2 Breast Cancer. The money I had for the speakers was now being used for the "Private health work", the subsequent surgery to remove said lump was the other day, she is fine now, just a few bouts of radiotherapy just to make sure everything is OK. So with less money now available, I started to look into "Cables", I own a set of TQ Black II, and was told by my dealer that the next logical step would be the Ultra Black II, they were good, but spending nearly a grand on something that was not a "Wow", was a tad to much. A very kind person here (he knows who he is) said he would see what he had, and send those for me to hear, so waiting for those to arrive The other cable I have been looking into (prior to hearing about the above cables) was the LS-40 from Abc audio, designed by the chap who designed cables for TQ cables So in a nutshell, nothing has changed as yet, and my partner is on the mend, and will soon start to tell me to turn that "crap off"  |

Re cables: I still have the mk1 TQ black and they’re very good sounding cable. Just keep your mk2 cables. 👍

I hope your partner makes a swift and full recovery. Yes, I've read Colin Wonfor's (ex TQ designer) cables are very good indeed. Would like to try some, but funds being diverted elsewhere at the moment  |

A wee February update...
One of my Rel subs has a major fault, sounds like the amp or something behind the front 12" speaker. We were watching a TV programme the other night, when all of a sudden during a bass heavy, ish moment, it went haywire, making us both jump out of our skins. The other sub was fine, as we do not listen loud. Anyway, just waiting to hear from Analogue Seduction were it was bought from 2 years ago (3 year Rel warranty), and take it from there

Another update as of July 2023. We were all booked in to see the Amphion 7LS speakers at our dealer, but due to yet another health issue, have had to put the Speaker dem on hold, as we both have the dreaded Covid, will see what transpire over the next couple of weeks. I have already made a final decision with the speakers, the demo was just so my other half could see them in the flesh. Hopefully the next update will show the new speakers and give some initial thoughts

Good to hear that your Wife has made a full recovery hope that continues . Just be careful that your Wife is checked as in a weakened condition after radio therapy covid can be a little more than when you are fully fit . Good luck with your search for the Wow factor .

Pete are you still looking at speakers at this time?In a word, yes. I have got a budget, and demoed a couple of sets, namely Fyne, ATC, Canton and Dynaudio, but there was just something missing. As use my current Amphion Argon 3 LS in conjunction with a pair of Rel S 8/12 subs, what was missing was the sound of a the low X over, so decided if I wanted more of the same, then going with the 7LS was the way to go. I spoke to Bill Leigh (the UK distributor) and he tried to get me to buy his demo Kryptons, yes, they would be nice, but will have been hammered at UK shows, Plus would be to big (physically) for the sitting room (as they have to be wife friendly) |

Its an "L" shape, about 14 ft wide and 20ft long (the dinning section, I have the speakers on the long wall, in the usual position, either side of the TV, and rack, with the subs outside the speakers away from any corner or wall ![]() . I would put a pic up, but do not know how too |
