My main music system was as follows Raspberry Pi 4 , Moode Audio distro , USB out to Musical Fidelity 192 Vlink , XLR digital out to MiniDSP DDRC 22D XLR digital out toMutec +3 USB , XLR digital out to dCA Purcell upsampler two XLR outs to Delius DAC feeding NVA P80 amp to Quad ESL 57 speakers . I have had issues with lack of head room sound hardening up when raising volume and making me frankly not use it .
As I have my three way active to use this is not a disaster but it is a waste . Finally yesterday got my a into g and took the MiniDSP out of the chain . Then swapped the player for my Allo Digione Signature using BNC output in to the BNC on the Mutec . A true result things are now less in the bass and high treble but they are playing lovely music . Had an issue with single ended leads so using a cheap Van Damme just to keep things playing for the holiday and will get a new Phono lead pair in the new year .
But for the first time in ages this system just sounds right not getting hard as you walk up the volume and loads of head room . So could not be happier and all for just the effort of swapping things out and adding things I already had in . Some times things go your way and I find it is best to just accept things and not look too hard at what was not working before .

As often happens when statements are made after changing things and making a difference a couple of days settling in makes you realise it was just a change and not an improvement . Well not this time for me this has been a very consistent and real improvement . I played the system for the first time to a friend Graham who dropped by to lend me some interconnects and sat an list3end for quite a few numbers with lots of tracks that he was familiar with . His verdict was very much along the same line as mine that this as the best sound i had ever had since he first heard this system and given that he uses twin subs in his system he was impressed with how much bass was actually possible with the Quads . No they are never going to be first choice for a Blues Party but they do have very good bass within their limits . So all things considered a good step forward . Sadly the hum has come back and I am a little at loss on how to trace the cause so if anyone is close by and fancies giving me a hand then get in touch I can provide tea and biscuits if that will help .

Sympathise - I am also struggling with a ground loop which seems to have appeared from nowhere. I can't seem to fix it.

Pleased you are enjoying your system, but sorry the hum as come back, what a bummer. I was recommended a sub to use with my 57's by optical and it certainly makes a difference for the better, and I'm no bass freak. Just for the record I use a REL T/5x.

Sympathise - I am also struggling with a ground loop which seems to have appeared from nowhere. I can't seem to fix it. Just check your potential differenices bewteen the connected boxes and earth Martin, a basic DNM will help you out here.
Most ground loops have a short to earth via a case or interconnect if was clear before, although sometimes a piece of equipment has floating ground, worth a check.

didn't have the energy to tackle it today, will have a go at it tomorrow. Needed a day of peace and quiet anyway
