Good morning beautiful people,
So I’ve chosen my speaker cable I’m having and I’m now looking at speaker cable connectors for the ends. I’ve been looking at the WBT-0610Ag Speaker Banana Plug and these look quite good. Can anyone recommend these or some others of your own choices please.

Monosaudio do a gold plated pure copper banana. I recommend those.

I can't support you on this one Oli, when I inserted them into the speaker sockets, the tightening springs just collapsed and did not spring back. I would suggest pure copper Z plugs or spades.

That's a shame Dave I've had the same pair for yonks now....they've been in and out of different speakers and put on different cables and have never needed any attention.

@bigman80 I think I spoke/messaged you about them, I remember you telling me you were pleased with them, mine unfortunately are loose in the speaker terminal. The spring pressed flat and does not 'spring' back to tighten in the socket. I know you will understand what I mean since you have them. When we meet up again I will bring them with me so you can see. I purchased them to use with my Musical Paradise amp since the speaker terminals are not widely spaced and did not suit the spades I was using. I would still recommend the pure copper spades I purchased from AliExpress if the terminals on the OP's speakers and amp are able to accept them.

Over the years I have come to prefer spade connectors. Like yesterday switched on and had one channel down. Simply I must have disturbed the cable without realising (it runs across the room) and one of the banana plugs had come out of the socket.
For no good reason I can see the binding posts on the speakers is half-way up them instead of at the base, and with the weight of the cable it does not take much to loosen the plugs. With spade there is more grip and you can tighten it up periodically. Use gold-plated spades to avoid corrosion or oxidisation.

Just had an amp through here that had blown up because a spade came loose and touched the other terminal.

Have read this from some user reviews too Dave, re: the spring, for both Monosaudio and Viborg, that both use this design. Still, I have some Monosaudio ones on the way and hope they hold tight, in position.

Good luck with them Robbie, but looking at them it is a design fault in my opinion.

It blew up or it blew a fuse? Nah, blew up... transistors and everything. No protection then? I bet it was either DIY or very expensive

I have those Monosaudio plugs that Oliver has mentioned. I am using them to connect cable to amp. Cable to X over and from XO to individual cones, so 4 pairs. Can't say anything but good about them. Thanksfully not having the issues that Dave has experienced, Couldn't be easier to fit. I have had them in and out of the amp too, but probably not as often as Oliver!!

Good to hear Pete, I'm not a fiddler, spend much more time listening than fiddling so they will pretty much stay put once inserted.

The chips in your 686 are self protected, over/under voltage, dc, short. Its built in.
