Guys,
I'm having a little trouble trying to determine the unit measure for stiffness, I'm assessing the merits of Sapphire and ruby cantilevers. I'd like the stiffest cantilever, I have four options diamond, ruby, sapphire and boron. Diamond is obviously the stiffest but where do the other sit?
Any ideas, or prods in the right direction would be most welcome.

If IIRC

Diamond Boron Sapphire/Ruby Aluminum If IIRC And where does Beryllium fit in?

Diamond Boron Sapphire/Ruby Aluminum If IIRC And where does Beryllium fit in? I believe beryllium is stronger than Boron...but far more hazardous to make.

The new ZYX carts use carbon fibre .

In terms of Modulus of Elasticity (E) which corresponds to stiffness the ranking is:
Diamond Boron Sapphire/Ruby Beryllium Titanium Aluminium
Since the mass of the cantilever is also important the usual ranking metric is Modulus of Elasticity divided by density, which then gives the following
Diamond Boron Beryllium Sapphire/Ruby Aluminium Titanium

What's the cheapest cart with a diamond canti? Ortofon Anna Diamond? Circa £6k?

Thanks for all the help. I can't believe some of the people over on PFM, a simple question and you get a load of nerks wanting an in depth explanation of why I need to know the stiffness of a cantilever, FFS.

I really thought this was a euphemism for audiophiles who required Viagra?

I guess the point of them asking is to highlight that it takes more than a single number to define the performance of a system. Unless you have identical carts built with canti of varying materials the stiffness of the canti is a pretty useless figure to know.
