Can anyone advise on a good valve tester. Make and model so we can test valves before we sell them

Don't these valve testers need calibrating themselves to be accurate and don't you need more equipment to be able to do this?

The 2 Avo testers on ebay have been calibrated.

That's good news but I would imagine they need to be checked / calibrated once yearly? It's one of the reasons I've not bought one myself.

Given the popularity of valves I'm surprised there are apparently no modern testers around.

There is one made by Orange, the amplifier maker, I'm not sure how good it is and probably nowhere near as good as Mullard / AVO specific testers.

I have made one of those, but a 'skeleton' one. I use an external high voltage supply and two external multimeters so it's not pretty and takes a little setting up. It only really gives a go-no go result but can show the balance between twin sections.

Ah right Alan. Yes I rather suspected that it is not such a clear solution as the author suggests. I guess it would take you many lunch hours to do properly.
