I have dragged my standby TT out and reinstalled the tonearm which was lent out to try. I only have two MM carts, a Stanton 520.V3 DJ cartridge and a Goldring G800 of unknown age, though it is decades old. I have installed the G800 and am quite blown away with how good it sounds. Lovely solidity to the sound, not the ultimate sweetness to the top end but that's only to be expected. The stylus is a 0.6mil conical, so is it madness to expect the performance or maturity to take it as it is and just enjoy it?

Give the Stanton a go too, that's a lot of fun with rock and dance music.
these days my take is that if there's nothing bugging you about the sound then your good to go, fretting over the pellucidity of the highs is a waste of energy and ends up just spoiling the experience.

I recall being impressed by a Goldring 1042 mm cart. Then I installed an mc and realised what I was missing!

I currently have an A&r P77, E77, & C77 head that I can slip into either a regular kgold) or Mg (black) body on my Rega R200 and all 3 I find are great, fum. I also have an AT OC5 & an EEI 555MCP to play with, yes for the ultimate sound I choose the EEI via a Rogers battery headamp, however the A&R in what ever guise is still a good listen. I have a spare standard A&4 body so happy to send you all 3 heads to play with if you want.

Old MM are an excellent budget option over expensive MC's. I still run several vintage Shure's and enjoy them very much indeed. Old MM's when fettled and matched with a decent MM phonostage can make an excellent listen and stylii are cheaply available, especially as JICO seem to be ramping up production for just about any vintage MM brand you care to mention. There is also the aspect of having some fun when buying several vintage MM brands and sometimes you can pick up a gem.
