My Sony STR-DA1200ES is a bit limited on HDMI inputs, and does not handle the sounded over HDMI, so I am thinking of getting a new entry level amp/receiver.
My home cinema speakers are nothing special (1990s Kef Coda) so I don’t need anything fancy.

Sony's STR DH790 looks to be a good 'un, nice uncluttered fascia, well reviewed, plenty of up-to-date features. Almost but not quite budget price, £449 at Richer Sounds. That will be my choice in the coming months.
Richers also have a Yamaha receiver at £299, which is probably ok. No Dolby Atmos, but I doubt you'd be bothered about that.

Thanks. I had a quick look at the Sony. Don’t think I can buy an amp with those clip type speaker terminals. I am not sure the cable will fit.

ASR have tested a fair few and Denon seem to be consistently the best in terms of measured performance.

Kevin, the point you made about the speaker terminals is a criticism I've seen before with the Sony kit. Maybe you could take a bit to the shop and see if it fits. Just remembered you are in France though - if you have to buy online it would be a gamble.

I've had quite a few Denon AV Receicers over the years. I not long ago (Maybe 6 months) upgraded to this 5* What Hi Fi winner. For the money I paid (Used) It's so much amp and very good sound. www.whathifi.com/denon/avr-x2300w/review

I may have to put this on hold, as I have the excess payment for my car repair to pay for. We shall see at the end of the month after the holidays.

I found one for €150, but it has a problem with the software update. It is at the other end of France, and he won’t post it.
I am in no rush, as my current receiver still works. I will wait for a bargain to turn up.

I tend to find that most of the things I watch listen to these days are in vanilla stereo and high end legacy av processors are very good and rather cheap these days.
