A NEW PROJECT!
Firstly, this may not even get finished. So, here's the story. As usual a lot of my "hi-fi" ideas usually arrive at completelty unexpected moments and to the most extent are usually based around lateral thinking with repects to digging out more performance from the kit I already own. I hate box swapping, I'm not adverse to box swapping but I really the like the idea of growing with your old kit, and, going on a sentimental journey to see just what can be done. So, I love SPU's, I own three, a Silver Mesiter II, a Royal N SPU, and a SPU Mono mk 2. My favourite is the Silver Meister II. The Royal N has a technically better diamond with a it's Replicant profile but I never got on with it's Silver/Gold alloy coils, even though it really digs out detail. My ears just don't like Gold when mixed with copper or silver. I've always loved the N's ability to retrieve detail but was left sonically cold, so my N now lives on my Garrard 401/SME V-12 system, on here it sound very good, I never gelled with this on my Garrard 301/SME 3012 combo.
I'd always wanted the best of the N for it's Replicant stylyus profile and data retrieval and the Silver Meister II for the clear, slightly clinical soundstage from it's silver coils. I always wondered if the presentation over the Tannoy 15" MG's could be improved further with my current setup. So, a plan was hatched. I've just scored a Silver Meister II (yes I already own one) from Germany, and after some conversation with a contact in the USA a new SPU hybrid was designed. So, the Silver Meister is going to have the Fritz Gyger S stylus profile fitted with its 120u profile and I'm having boron cantilever instead of aluminium. The coils and suspension are to be tweaked as well. I have no idea if this will work, certainly bound to have some fun. I'm hoping to hear more detail from the Croft/Sondex/Garrard/Tannoy system. I'm also getting my Keotsu Black checked over, so we may have a second side project with a high mass tonearm for the Koetsu, more fun.......
Stay tuned...

It might be. I think I've found a Killian replacement and this dude has a track history of restoring completely knackered carts and a very reasonable price. I'll PM you details if your interested for further experiments, retipping exploits.

I've just realised the problem with this plan. SETTING UP THE 'EFFING FGS STYLUS PROFILE............... He He, lol - honestly that crossed my mind, I didnt want to say... That said, hand on heart, it will be worth it, once you've dialled any of these microline type profiles in, in my experience, they are just excellent, the FGS is no exception - digs deep, so detail retrieval is amazing AND all the other stuf like tonal accuracy and recorded music info. I'll never go less than an FGS / Replicant - ever
