The first link (purchased) seems to be wrong, takes me to a Hiend Munich show report. Of the alternatives, I'd go with the Z-plug style. They tend to have more consistent contact and grip than the old banana plug style, though I don't quite understand the solid probe in the middle of those z-plugs.

Sorry about the misleading link, hopefully I've corrected it now.

I'm assuming these are brass plugs whereas the ones I ordered are copper, the 'spring' just flattens out with copper, maybe the brass are stronger?

That type of 4mm plug needs spring steel as the 'spring', copper just isn't going to do it.

I have something similar to the ones you're looking at (not cheap either) and they sound worse than the ones I've linked to on Ebay. They are good, solid, decent sounding plugs. Probably brass, as you say, though.

I noticed with pure or nearly pure copper, as Alan said, that they don't have enough spring. Phosphor bronze, tellurium copper, plated brass all have enough spring. My KLEI harmony banana plugs are pure copper with silver plating, but I found they need to be spread again every time they are taken out and plugged back in. If you adjust, plug, and leave them they are great, but leaving them alone does not work for my situation so switched to Tellurium copper z-plugs.
Most of the Z-plugs I've seen or used just have the shell which acts both as contact surface and spring and nothing else is needed, so I still don't understand the centre probe inside the z-plug on your example (link 3). ...Oh, I guess if they are actually pure copper, the inner probe exerts outward pressure and keeps them from collapsing, as Alan said.
BTW: your corrected link (1) looks like Oli's favourite Viborg copper plugs. I wonder if they behave the same or differently to his.

They do look pretty much identical Bruce.

They do look pretty much identical Bruce. I think you've had a dodgy set mate. I've used those type (same factory as Viborg) for the last 18months, plugging and unplugging, and they have been fine. I love them. I have noticed that some speakers have exceptionally tight 4mm holes, almost like they aren't quite 4mm, and if that's the case, you will be flattening the spring. Best sounding plug, next to bare wire.

Writing/marking should read (correct way up) from source (or amp) to component (or speakers). Most logical way round really. That's the usual orientation anyway. (Link not working by the way, I can't seem to link anything to Ali Express either).

Nope . . . I tried the other day (in vain) to link something from Ali Express. Just reverts back to the home-page every single time. Works on some browsers for some people but not for me . . . or you it would seem

They are phospher bronze, and a copy of the CMC ones IIRC. Not bad for the money though.
