,Rockna was an interesting suggestion although I think they would cost more than £5k, however they did make the AudioByte VOX/ZAP which would get you under your budget, don't see any mention of them nowadays so maybe they have stopped producing this model

They are new £4450 anyway lol
Have a taken a couple of holo May KTE in p/x, very different sound, more meat on the bone, more drive and bass control the internal OS is light years ahead, NOS if you like full on pipeand slippers then the Rockna is not a dac for you. only 384Khz though.
It thrives on a good source no question for naimies stick in the I2s slap in a Gustard U18 and you will be in bleeding edge heaven. For those music lovers stick with AES and Mutec and you will never wish to leave to listening spot.
The WL imho is a better overal balance, the WD they are three versions, sig is superb, BUT you really need GOOD supporting kit, it will show ANY weakness. The base model WD, is really different from the WL or just different?

Emm, I thought your website showed them closer to £7k, maybe got that wrong. Also one might look at SW1X level III or level II SPX. All this is way out of my realm of possibility anyway!

Hi Bruce,
They are £4400 inc vat. It's a genuine runner in the upto 8-9K stakes, and it more than holds its own against a Audio Note Dac5 sig

Yes there is its the base model with XLR's all of the WD's work the best in balanced no question.
Its been there for a few weeks and if you look also the same image appears on hifi shark for a lot less as well.
The chap is in Bornemouth I believe, its also an early model with the coloured display instead of white, also the top logo on the cover is diffferent it is purfirated with holes
Entry level WD's XLR's start about £8k
Its a sorta of a bargin just go for it

I actually did this in June this year. Sold on my LP12 (Akurate Plus spec) record deck and Naim CD 5 XS CD player.
All the records and CDs were bought as a complete lot by a dealer, the storage and all other paraphernalia were sold on a well known auction site.
Went totally digital and changed to a Linn Klimax DS3 / Katalyst streamer to go with the Naim amplification and Kudos speakers.
Really enjoying it and it is similar sounding to my previous LP12 set up. Using Qobuz as it has the largest number of Jazz tracks with a good number of them in Hi-Res.
One of the best things I’ve done, Hi-Fi wise.

Just a thought but probably not a great one would creating a DAC that had its own dedicated version of a DDE like the Mutec inside the same case make a clear increase in sound quality ? I only say this because on a very low tech level it is very clear that something like an Allo Digi Signature hat is a very real uplift in sound quality because the board has a better LPSU but also because the Allo is being fed direct I2S in very close proximity to the other chips . I have also been told by another DAC maker that moving Raspberry Pi in to the same box as the DAC board has a very significant increase in sound quality to that DAC. So if keeping things close together can work in this way would the same be for a DDE style high quality clock fed directly from the DAC board at I2S level and then fed back to the DAC for output ? Look this may be just none sense as I have not a great technical grasp of this subject but I think most on here are convinced that Clocking makes a very beneficial uplift to the sound quality so could a one unit solution be a better way for getting the maximum sound quality ?

I2s internal is NOT th3s same as I2S via LVDS (HDMI / RJ45) and its been done many times BC by one or two manufacturers

I never said that I2S output from a socket (HDMI , 5 Mini DIN etc) was the same . In fact as far as I can tell that is why using the two items in the same box and connecting at circuit board level using the I2S out from the Pi pins is supposed to be better as it uses I2S for what it was designed for .
Are you saying that internal chip connection of I2S is not the full three channel output of R/L and clock information ? If so then I was not aware of that as in the cases i have seen for chip connection and pin function there are three pins for the above information and I presumed that was what was being sent around the circuit board .

Use the 5k to go to more gigs. No one i want to see, unless Ray Lamontagne comes to the UK I don't have £5k BTW, its a hypothetical lol Use the 5k to go to more hypothetical gigs - you'll get front row at Ray Lamontagne definitely.

use some of the £5K to go on holiday. After a week of listening to some crappy bar PA in Torremolinos your system will sound superb when you get back.
