I decided to break out the SS system tonight. It's a bit like changing your big winter clothes for light summer clothing. The valve system in the listening room can get a bit too hot, I've got various 300B, ECC83's, 6SL7'S, and KT88's warming the place up. So, tonight it's the Technics 1210, ATC actives, Ortofon Black FGS and plenty of RUSH! My room is no longer doing an impression of death valley! Massive wide open soundstage, bass as tight as a Gnat's chuff and a beer in my hand. What more can a man want?

Every now and then I go into my frontroom and fire up my 2nd system: Rega 3/R200/A&R P77MG, (Also Mk1 Marantz CD63 SE, Sansui T500L, Sony TC-FX150, CCA & FiiO Taishan DAC ) 80s Cambridge C50 & 2x A50s, Kef 104ab (the amps tuner and cassette deck I've had since 88). I do this to recalibrate myself so I can more appreciate my main rig and realise how far I've come in the last 5 1/2 years. I must confess when I do return to the 2nd system I really enjoy it and use it exclusively for a week or so. After the 1st hour I don't miss the main rig as the whole thing is so musical and probably gives me 80% of what the main rig does. It is however that last 20% that costs the serious ££s, I also have a very very early 401 and RB250 that's been sat on the floor for the last 6 months. I'm sure most people would be more than happy with the 401 fronting the rest of my 2nd system as their main rig, but that's the madness of this hobby.

I'm not sure I understand why you have two systems?
Ok, lurch yes.....for appreciation of the main system. Like only eating bread and water for a week to appreciate the Sunday roast.
But I can't imagine a second system satisfying me the way the main (only) system does ...so why bother?

For doing stuff to and radio mainly.

For doing stuff to and radio mainly. Oh, well that's just for whilst I'm in the garage. I'm not listening to it, Its just background music. I'd be equally as happy with a DAB radio in that environment. I mean, I have a Bluetooth speaker in the kitchen, but I'm unlikely to pack the system away for the summer to put an Alexa on lol I just don't understand the concept of putting away a system, that I've spent hours and hours building, and spent thousands of pounds on. The main system is THE system I want to listen to music on.

I can fully understand changing over to SS if your main amp is a valve one during the summer months (can't say I class this as summer yet though), our 2nd system is my system, which does have the tt included, my brothers system though is in the lounge.

My second system is just for watching telly and films. Does not compete with the main system for sound quality, although it's within the acceptable range.
I only have one living room and the bedroom is just used for sleeping and storing unused equipment.
I think even if I had a second living room I wouldn't bother putting another system in there, I just don't see the point.

If I had a second living room I'd put Anita and her telly in it, then I can play what I want, when I want.

Truth is if I had a second living room it would be full of junk just like the bedrooms are.

My limit for said shows and 99.8% of TV output is a big fat ZERO. My telly gets switched on for a maximum of 19 hours a year to watch the 1 hour MotoGP catchup shows on ITV4 via a ROKU stick, and that's it.

Now there's a programme that makes me glad I'm old... So do I take it you're into your bikes? There seems to be a lot of us on these forums, which is nice.

Yep been into bikes since my early teens, don't ride anymore though as having had a knee replacement in 2018 I'm left with Enfield 500s or a bloody Harleys as the only bikes I fit on. Was never into crotch rockets or being a power ranger but did build a cafed 1978 Z1000A2 A2 (metal flake paint, Raask rearsets, ace bars, original 70s Davida swing arm & Yoshi pipe) in 2005, I even big-bored it with a Yoshi 1105 kit, 0.415 cams & 29mm smooth bores. Last bike was a Yamaha XJR1300, rode that all over Europe.
