Hi
Does anybody on here have experience of setting up the above TT or in general other reasonable suspended chassis’s TTs . Earlier Linns , Pinks, Aristons sort. The TT has a rewired/ diff counter weigh RB250 ( Origin Live and Matt ( Rock doc) . A diff Mat can’t remember which though .
I have had a go with an arc protractor from the vinyl engine ( appropriate one for pivot to spindle for the Rega arm ) and also have one of those electronic stylus gauges ( and a Shure balance) . I have a cartridge based on a Clearaudio Virtuoso . Not so long along ago I replaced the bearing oil and the belt is not that old ( Thorens one). I also have a Test record but not 100% sure how I use it tbh.
I ask the question only because my TT does not sound as good as it used to ( or is that just my ears ??). When I first bought the TT it was auditioned alongside a Linn and a Pink ( early 90s versions) and was the best of the 3 but it’s not up to the modern Linn but then it did only cost £550 in 1991 ( actually that was a reasonable amount of money back then)
I am happy to pay someone inc petrol (within reason - semi retired guy here ) to come over here to set it up or at least check what I have done . So if anybody is localish to Worcester and fancies a challenge please message me . Will supply coffee and bics and you get to see Beauhorn B2.3 in the flesh .
Hope this kind of post is allowed , don’t really want to take TT to Himbleton. 🙂

Sunday afternoon is free. Well the cafe options are more limited on a Sunday but that can work as we don’t have grandson that day. My partner is going to see her friend anyway around lunchtime for a meal out. What time did you have in mind ?

Sunday afternoon is free. Thank you so much for all the kind help today. The TT definitely sounds much crisper and less smeared now and it was interesting the arm board issue . And once I have finished the Bev gardening jobs, quite like a lot to do , will be having a long vinyl listening session tonight to chill before the start of the new job tomorrow. Catch up at Himley or message me before if you have any Audiolab news but I am in no rush as waiting for Parcelforce response although will need to be fixed anyway. I will certainly want to investigate the Croft gain issue with you to. Still the dilemma of the Beauhorns what was the song title “ Shouid I stay or should I go now”? I doubt I would ever get speakers as good this side of £700 min . To qoute another song “ Everything counts in large amounts .

Yes it sounded really good once the correct setup distances were dialled in.
Plus the crud removed from the stylus, lol.

I now refuse to "dip" the stylus in any putty etc as i think that skewed the cantilever on my Ortofon Vienna.

My headshell is no longer removable, so that's not really an option now. I may be attributing the cantilever issue to the putty unfairly, but I didn't do anything else different and I've never had it happen before I use the brush now. That's it.

There have also been reports of the putty cleaners adding to the crud issue as it leaves a residue on the diamond and this in itself attracts crud.

*grabs pitchfork* BACK! BACK! lol Says the man who was tempted to sell off his vinyl set-up because his digital was so good There was more to it than just how good the digital is. Continuing cartridge costs was a big factor in that consideration too. After 3 months of no vinyl, I'm starting to think I quite miss it.

I miss it too sometimes but it's like quitting drinking, you have to take it one day at a time.

Yeah, but like quitting anything, you have to want to.
And I don't want to 🙂

Yeah, but like quitting anything, you have to want to. And I don't want to 🙂 so change your mind about what you want. Start thinking about it as a bastardisation of the original recording, as fundamentally that's what it is. Had a mate round, he ;s older than me still thinks vinyl is 'the best'. We were listening to 'LA Woman'. He says 'This sounds much cleaner than my LP. is it a remaster?' Nope, it's transcribed from the original master tape by the original engineer. You're not getting closer to the studio than that. If your band put out a recording and everyone was listening to a bastardised version of it would you be happy about that?
