Since I was unable to ship my valve amplifier back to the uk due to the cost I'm missing the type of sound I became used to and have been looking at other cheap valve amplifiers. I have shown an interest in one advertised on the Wam but the owner would rather the amp be collected and the distance is too far for me to travel. I keep looking at 4 different ones and am struggling to make up my mind, so I'm going to ask you to give your thoughts. www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002570664163.html?spm=a2g0s.8937460.0.0.6aa92e0ensXysU - This one is the cheapest, I like the looks, it's self biasing, get excellent reviews and I have fancied trying it for some time, JANDL has mentioned he like the 6L6 power tubes and my brother has a couple of spare Gold Lion KT88's should I wish to try and I've seen replacement pre amp tubes which are not too expensive watfordvalves.com/product_detail.asp?id=4861 the only downside is the 6watts output, but It will be used in a small room and I never play music too loud these days. www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003303826730.html?spm=a2g0s.8937460.0.0.72712e0elUAs9A - Alan's thrown a spanner in the works by saying it's a very good sounding amplifier with a little modification, I have two pre's, an NVA and a Chinese one that Firebottle has sprinkled his fairy dust on (hope his hands were dry and he put enough on). I'm thinking I will like the sound of 300B's, it outputs a few more watts, downside is cost, since I will have to pay more, plus a small amount to modify. This is the cheapest supplier I can find, $100 less than the next, but it does say 220v, I have messaged the seller who says it suits 220v-240v, the more expensive one you can order 230v. There is also the cost of replacing 300B valves when the time comes. www.aliexpress.com/item/32969045645.html?spm=a2g0s.8937460.0.0.72712e0elUAs9A - Price is good, excellent review on YT, saying it gives more than the same manufacturers A10 which itself has had great reviews everywhere. Downside, it's more expensive than the Musical Paradise. www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002575776774.html?spm=a2g0s.8937460.0.0.72712e0elUAs9A - Great looking amp, but again 220v although I believe this manufacturer makes good solid reliable amps and the cost goes against it. I haven't picked a KT88 amp since I'm hopeful of shipping back mine to the uk next time I go back, but that's another story. So the options are above or do I wait and see what else come up for sale on forums or do you have any other suggestions. Thanks

Is the one on the Wigwam the Jazz 6L6?
If so, drive the extra miles and go get it. It's a superb amp. The seller bought it off me.

The Amp is in Exeter if anyone can help with an AA Taxi. Jack (Non-Smoking Man) on the Wam is my upstairs tennent and regularly goes to Leeds/York so if it can be got to Bournemouth/Chichester then easy enough to get it up country.

Zheng Cai, born in Jilin province, love radio, smart and studious, he graduated from the Beijing Broadcasting Institute. After graduation, he worked at Dunhua radio plant and become Chief engineer after two years of work. Between 1984 and 1991 he served as chief engineer of Changchun radio factory which is a well-know company at that time. In the spare time Zheng keeps his hobby on electronics and he found that at that time in China there is no HIFI tube amplifiers yet. Therefore he planned to go to Guangdong together with his younger brother Zheng Xi where the HIFI industry has a very good background affected by HK. Zheng realized that in China as for HiFi vacuum tube amplifier production it is almost blank especially about the audio transformer which is the most important part for tube amplifiers. Realizing such an issue Zheng Brothers decided to do research and investigation specially on such subjects vacuum tube amplifiers and its audio transformers. From its start Zheng brothers have spent around 2 years succeeding in researching and developing the high end audio transformers. Good thing is they succeed but at the same time in order to do research they almost spent all their money. They are at a very difficult situation that how to move on. How to use the technology and have it produced. Just at the time Cayin, the first vacuum tube amplifier manufacturer in mainland China needs the technology for production of their own products. It is such an opportunity that Zheng was invited to join Cayin in 1993, when he was one of the shareholders of Cayin. He also works as General manager and chief engineer in Cayin at the very start up time. In 1995, it was the time of Cayin got its reputation in China and worldwide. However with development of two years Zheng and the other shareholders have some disagreement that Zheng suggests to develop the very high-end of amplifiers. Finally Zheng left Cayin and begin his long time working in different companies. First Caier Factory established together wit his friend. At the very beginning the factory is located in Zhuhai and later to Zhongshan for a better sourcing network. In 2001 he worked in Panyu as a co-founder of large audio company. A year later, from 2002 to 2004 he works in a Guangzhou Factory which is working on OEM production only. Zheng is in charge of research and product development there including tube amplifier, CD players and solid state amplifiers. Working in different companies Zheng has got an experience on different areas. It gave him a possibility to know and understand HIEND products from the western company. In his spare time Zheng helps audiophiles repair the WE traditional products. It is at such time that Zheng has got more and more knowledge about the WE products and it is great pleaure for him and the audiophile to see the Old devices of WE got their lives again. It is restore the glory of the past. It is this period time that make Zheng more and more experienced on development and designing of HIEND products. He has got chances to touch not only the modern products but also some vintage products like the horn system, drivers, vintage amplifier etc. He has learned a lot from this experience. Later on he always said it is a period for progress for himself even he does not work at a factory or a business for a long time. It has also give a solid foundation of the establishment of the Line Magnetic Audio Company in 2005 I know you were trying to help but I think the amps sold on AliExpress, especially by reputable sellers, will be genuine. I have also seen the official MP site and am tempted to go through there, but I have also read production is now done in China, that is why they are sold on AE.

I was wondering where you'd got to John , had already thought of this but Exeter is some distance from yourself, so of course that was the problem. I'm sure I could easily arrange to meet Jack en route north, be good to meet him since we do converse on the horse racing threads on the Wam.

PM GLB on the Wam, he's always running up from Cornwall to Littlehampton so could drop it into me/Jack. He's off to Portugal mid May which is unfortunate otherwise he would have been coming to my next BO on 15/5.

LMs are bloody superb, a friend has their 508i (805 valves with 300B drivers & 50wpc) and another has one of their 845 SEs and they sound amazing. Although they're integrated, they have a position on the source selector (Direct) which turns them into power amp only mode.

I've messaged the seller on Wam to ask how his sale is progressing.
Bigman, I'm sure you have gathered the info to realise it is the Jazz 6L6 that is for sale on the Wam.
Thanks everyone for your replies.

I was tempted to drive down to Exeter (3 x 2 hours) to get this amp but reminded myself that I have far too many 'keeper' amps. I've never (so far!) had a problem sending/receiving valve stuff via courier (UPS is my choice) but understand why sellers are reluctant.

Yes, I was thinking it would be fine with a courier. That's how I received it in the first place. It's quite small, so should be easy to sturdily double box. Probably send the valves separately.
