Lots of cable discussion here, coax vs twisted pair, OCCC vs whatever and so forth. Is it a big waste of time? www.soundguys.com/cable-myths-reviving-the-coathanger-test-23553/122 listeners chose “both sound equally as good” (41.7%)
96 listeners preferred the cable (32.4%)
86 listeners preferred the coathanger (29.5%)Warning -contains measurements, blind-testing and adult situations.

My take is that all of the cables involved were no better than coat hangers.....which judging from the pictures sound like a very plausible theory.

'Well engineered consumer cables' WTF they are using bl**dy jack plugs!
How in hell is it going to sound anything other than crap.

Think I'll try using some cables for coathangers and see how they stack up. I did use to use am old guitar lead as a washing line at one place I lived, it was functional. Amazing how many people spotted it and commented.

Although I agree Ollie has a point in that it's possible the cables were no better than coathangers and something else might have done better.

That's not really the correct way of looking at it in my opinion. We have to separate the recording from the 'reenactment' (on our stereos). Just because a material/cable might be used in the recording doesn't mean that running that signal through a similar one will not be detrimental. It might not be but I suspect it would be. During the recording/performance the sound is the sound. Nothing you can do about that. Here we're trying to preserve the signal that was recorded as best we can and by using crappy jack's it isn't doing that as well as it could be doing, well, in my opinion.

That's a fair point, on the other hand if someone could convince musicians that their instruments will sound better with your upgraded connectors they would make millions very quickly. But the 3/4 jack has remained.

I'd love to rewire a Schecter with all copper wiring and bypass any jack's straight into the amp input, hand it to knopfler and say "go rerecord all your albums Mark, they'll be better".... But I doubt he'd believe me and he'd probably be right..... But you couldn't be sure. My point is the musicians are 'happy' with the sound as long as it close to natural.... However they may never know just how 'natural' it could have sounded.....

Been done before, Rob did a test on zero gain years ago. Keys, coathangers kit kat tin foil and cables. There was no clear consensus

If Hendrix played via a coathangar, we all would....doesn't mean it sounds the best or couldn't sound "better"

Well I suspect the 'triangulation' effect of the RF absorbtion quotiant should negate any sub Thz intermodualtion bandwidth creeping along with my flanger open backed, foil baked point to point 'wired' pedal all hooked up through 144 brass forged keys to the fifth driver stage Marshall cabs fully grounded with ionized pocket watch wrist straps. Man I am good to go?

The same RF magnet as having a shield connected only at one end, otherwise known as an antenna.

Well I am using some cable from the 1930-1940s American Telegraph system as jumper leads and they are only one step up from a coat hanger!
However they beat 5 other cables from well known manufacturers.

Anybody that believes coat hangers and good wires are the same in sound quality needs to seek help!!! Impedance- resistance all matter!! It’s a troll discussion

Ah, this was one of the great AA threads.
It includes probably my most insightful and relevant forum post ever - concise, to the point and heartfelt.
