I've been given a thing. A small blue, floppy, stretchy, insignificant thing.
And this thing has utterly confounded me. It is without doubt the largest single analogue upgrade I've experienced in over a decade.
It has taken a laser to my analogue playback, and unleashed upon me a tidalwave of improved, focus, enhanced resolution, more hyper realistic timbre, it's extracted unfound levels of nuance and unlocked levels of refinement I previously hadn't thought existed.
It has utterly confounded me by unleashing a level of refinement and realism I didn't think could be pressed into a slab of vinyl.
What is it? Its a bloody belt. A 170mm ring of squidgy rubber. The world's not right tonight, not at all, something very wrong is afoot under my platter.
They're making magic under there... and I don't know how.

Come on, tell us more about the blue wonder

It doesn't have a name yet. It's a prototype belt from a guy who supplies belts for old cd transports and r2r decks. That's all I know.

Yep, a belt seems so simple but replace an inadequate, worn, stretched, or loose one, with a grippier, tighter, more durable one and the change can be like you've bought a new and better bit of kit

Thing is, my other belt is a 3 month old genuine linn part.

Linns are actually UK made belts.
This shits on it.

here's the measurements. ( same place from start of track, same up to speed time, same volume, same windowing, everything) Lower signal level away from the fundamental, significantly lower at the motor rpm and 2x of motor rpm. narrower, straighter fundamental and much smoother at base of fundamental. That's clear indication of better speed stability and a reduction in transmission of noise from the motor (250rpm) Basically everything i heard.

It's great that what you have heard has been backed up by the measurements. Always pleasing.

To be fair I was expecting it to be easily measurable as it wasn't one of those subtle changes.

I guess this is an issue with belt drive. 6 months is nothing fro a belt, I think Linn say change at 10 years?? Be interesting to see how the other belt measures, and sounds after 6 months
