Has anybody tried some of the more expensive XLR connectors, instead of the Neutrik connectors? I was thinking of getting some with pure copper contacts, but I am concerned with two things.
The price Copper is soft, so the contacts will be fragile.
Inam just wondering if they will really make a difference in a truly balanced circuit?

I have never broken a copper contact. After using absolutely loads of different XLRs, the ones I'd recommend are the AECO types. The hollow pins make for a much more open sound IMO. There are some on Audiophonics with a hollow pin, I have used those a lot. They are good. Defo worth doing IMO

Thanks Oli. The only ones I can see are Elecaudio with a hollow pin. They are not expensive either.

One other thought. If the Pre and DAC have standard XLR connectors, am I wasting my time fitting pure copper?

The cheapest ones are €30 a pop. I need 8.
Silver plated Neutrik are €5 a pop, and are probably more robust.

Rummaging through my cable box, I have found a couple of lengths of Furutech FS21 OCC. That is 8mm so will fit in some Neutrik connectors.
I have some Graham Slee Libran XLR cables currently fitted, and they use Neutrik, like many more expensive cables. I will go for the Silver Plated Neutrik on one cable, and may try the Viborg solver plated copper on another cable.
