Welcome Des, never a bad time to join but I'd say you've picked a good moment as there's a fair amount going on.... Cue mas exodus and radio silence....

Welcome Des, are you another diy'er, or like me with enough on his plate and just enjoys the music? Just enjoy the music, but I know a few diy’ers, have a hypex built amp for a change of flavour from valves and a Chevron built dddac.

Hi Des, Welcome to the forum! Give us a bot of info about your system, future plans etc. Oliver System is mainly valve based, around Lv speakers and yamaha speakers, probably go full active with the yammies though this year.

Nothing wrong with that Des, especially for the summer months.

Yep, NS 1000, Probably bung some Hypex 123 fusion plates on them, not sure yet. Seems to be a popular speaker to do that with.

Yep, NS 1000, Probably bung some Hypex 123 fusion plates on them, not sure yet. If you have some valves prior to that in the chain, I can imagine that combo complimenting eachother quite nicely. My experience (albeit relatively minor) with class d, has always sounded more enjoyable with some valves either as a buffer or in the preamp beforehand. I'll wager there are ways of getting class d to sound as good without them but like I say my experience is limited there, never heard any "high end" class d really. Currently running some Ice Power modules among other amps with a valve pre. Slightly underpowered for my Logan's but do a good job. Would love to hear a 400w purifi with them at some point....

I know what you mean, and it might be something I try in the future, but upon hearing the fusion plates on the Yamahas I’m wondering if I would need a pre at all as they have various inputs to switch between and a remote volume control. Having mainly used valves amps though I understand where your coming from when using class D amps.

They are on independent boards but from the same smps, and only around 120w at 8ohms although it sounds a bit less to my ears, again likely due to the power supply. If they were twice as powerful they'd be fine as they would be for most speakers, just not ones rated to 600w..... Can't wait for my new(ish) amps to land....
