I thought I'd start a thread with regards to MONO recordings. It's an area where I've done a little exploring. Sometimes these recordings sound amazing, sometimes they sound pretty duff. I'm going to post on here occasionally when I think I've found something very good or highlight something very poor. It's not meant to be serious and is a fun aspect of the hobby which can still be cheap to pursue. Today I managed to pick up a Shirley Bassey Album for 50p. Should be worth a listen, so I'll finish off my jobs today and then have a listen and get back.

The mono setup has taken a large leap forward in that the re-equaliser III reko-cut is now sitting somewhere in the UK and awaiting delivery. I'm really looking forward to trying this out with my MONO stuff. I've also decided to have a whole loom of Duelund cable in MONO system. I'll be using a Radford Pre-amp (which might get modded). Power amp will be valve, but not quite sure which one yet. Speakers will either be Quad ESL 57 or Tannoy 15" MG's. A proper vintage system for proper vintage records.

The Rek-o-Kut Re-equaliser III is in the set-up and it sounds amazing. Early DECCA MONO recordings now have an amazaing vitality. It's a bit like listening to a DECCA Maroon cartridge for the first time. In fact it's like having a DECCA Maroon fitted but without all the setup hassle. I'm ;istening to a early Ace of Hearts recording of Peggy Lee - Black Coffee, man it sounds as fresh a something newly pressed.
