A question for anyone who knows can i add a second input to a pre amp without using a selector switch. Can i just join 2 inputs together. Just fit a toggle switch on the rear for the simplest method.

You could just parallel two inputs BUT it would depend on the characteristics of each source when switched off as to whether it would work.
Ideally you would want the sources to present a high impedance when off so they didn't load the other source. Simpler and more workable just to fit a switch, as mentioned.
