Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else? Or maybe if macca could shed any light on this: I sent a parcel to Australia around two weeks ago. I used the UPS official website and duly paid the £114.63 to send it. It got lost in the tracking system on the way, but was eventually delivered a few days late. Yesterday i got an invoice through the post claiming i owe them another £80ish for "Transportation charges" and "Peak/Demand Surcharge" I have emailed them and asked how i owe another £80 and they are claiming that i have used a prepaid service and any charges are to be paid by me. They haven't and wont say how the charges occured.

I've never heard of that before, but at least you've got the upper hand since the parcel has already been delivered.

That smells extremely fishy. If you’re using an email that was mentioned on the invoice, have you verified it’s the genuine one?

Can you not counter the invoice by saying that they delivered in two days late, breaking their contract for delivery at the price you paid? I used a guaranteed service with them, and they delivered late, and had to refund me.
Ask for detail of the invoice, as if they know you owe an additional £80, they will/should know why.

It is genuine. antonio I can't ignroe it or they start adding fee's and 8%APR on the debt You must have documentation from when you purchased the service originally, or could you go back to the screen as if to purchase the same thing again. Are there any T&Cs that you accepted or even just displayed? if you've purchased that service and they have confirmed it, then at the very least there would need to be a stated notice that you may be subject to further charges. If not then you should stick to your guns. The contract between you consists of the information exchanged and agreed to at the point of sale, they are not entitled to retrospectively change that. If no such pre-existing condition exists then do not pay them any more!

After waiting 25 minutes for someone to answer the phone, i think i may know what is going on. It appears they cannot locate the original payment, which was done through PayPal. They are now going to try and locate it and as long as they can, it should be sorted. The call handler said they have charged me the shipping costs again because it is showing as "not paid" I have all the transaction fee numbers etc, so hopefully i can get this dealt with soon.

What a ball ache, sounds like you have got to the bottom of it though. Perhaps a genuine mistake by them, but sounds like they went about it in a crap way.

If it was only £80, I would be asking for difference in a refund, as you have overpaid.

I told the call handler the exact same thing I'd put in two emails to them and yet they couldn't explain it. She'd worked it out in minutes. I dread the day that you can no longer speak to a human at these places.

Yeah.. sent our friends kids a wedding present last September UPS claimed to have tried delivering it (mind you they do live on the middle of nowhere in the woods) I tried tracking it over the months, sending emails etc etc Then the tracker said it was in Doncaster. Then the tracker info disappeared Then to everyone’s surprise it turned up in Northern Michigan a few weeks ago. Then last week I got a direct debit charge from UPS for twenty odd quid. Loosing the will to live doesn’t even cover it.

Great news Olster, glad you've got to the bottom of it. Thing is, not everyone is good at unraveling these kind of things and it would therefore cause further untold unnecessary worry and stress

I decided this morning that I wasn't going to pay it and I'd fight them to the death lol

UPS are great when it arrives (as with all couriers) but are the worst when things go awry.
I have heard of a couple of shitstorms that have never been sorted. Their communication in these cases is worse than abysmal.
Good job Oli in getting through.

UPS - Unreliable Parcel Service?
My latest experience with them was sending my passport back to the U.K. for renewal. Guaranteed delivery service to Doncaster. The alarm bells started ringing when it arrived in Fort Worth….

For smaller parcels I use Royal mail, pricey for anything larger though.

DPd are absolutely terrible here in Toulouse. They send you a text to say they have attempted delivery, but never leave a note in the letterbox, so you have to go and get the parcel from the depot.

UPS were the arseholes who originally lost my Brinkmann and £60k+ worth of tts, arms and electronics that were dispatched from Germany. It was, only when Brinkmann stick in an insurance claim for €87,000 that the stuff miraculously appeared on the tracking app and turned up at Symmetry (UK importer) 2 days later. Brinkmann also cancelled their contract with UPS.

Yeah, I remember reading some years back, on another forum, a guy sadly expressing how the very rare and beautiful Sansui AU-X1111 MOS Vintage he'd scored (regarded as the king of Sansui Integrated's), was damaged beyond repair by UPS, I could only half imagine how he felt - That seriously put me off them from then.
