I'm a man of my word, so here's CK's thoughts on SAEC and LS40 cables OK so cables, the Triple-C was exceptional at hi-frequency so it'll be good on a smooth amp, bass was super tight and taught. BUT with the Aavik U300 it was brash and brittle. so not suited to ultra detailed sounds, it was like it pushed the detail to hard. The EWA is a very analog sounding cable and in the company of Aavik, won hands down. The LS-40 even saw off a pair of £5K Anzus cables off. There you have it, of course everyone wants something different or hears things differently so until you can actually dem them yourselves side by side in your own system we are non the wiser Excellent work, Dave.

There is a set of EWA LS40 that can go out on loan from the distributor on pfm. I'd be happy to put my name down to try them if we have that 'get together' and I'd be able to bring them along.
Pull your finger out whoever is organising it, I return 5 weeks today, just make sure it does not clash with Cheltenham races, although I guess it would be held on a weekend.

Struggling to find the time to organise it mate. If someone here wants to put it together, I'd be grateful.

I just ordered the SAEC 850, will be interesting to see how it compares to my MIT MH-750. ...emmm, a cable bake-off w/LS40 and summat else? Could be rather illuminating or dull as x, depending on your prespective.

I have the Acoustic Revice reference II and it has been nothing but a success all round. Might be a case of horses for courses, some people preferring solid core and some stranded in their respective systems.

Yeah, solid core just wasn't an option in my lounge, from a practical point of view. BTW: my wife will be happy if I can remove spanning one length of the lounge, the 20mm off-white hosepipe 4m long with a box the size of a brick at one end!

Yes the 850 looks like it could well be a candidate for "skirting-board blending" with some creativity and possibly some cable trunking?? Just a thought . . . . Christ, if I had to move the speakers that often I think I'd have gone doolally by now . . . . hope you have a very accurate reference point to put them back to their exact positions if they're anything as sensitive as mine with positioning . . . .

I paid
£128 for 1.8m SAEC SL-1980 £70.00 for another cable
Shipping £20.80
On ebay:
1.8m SAEC SL-1980 - £205.00
Shipping £10.50
Its definitely worth perseverance with Zenmarket

Could you show a link for the SAEC SL-1980, I can't find it on Zen, also could you tell me the diameter of the cable.

For years I had them in one place, but trying to find a decent position for my Maggies, I also experimented with the Proacs... where they easily sound best just won't do in the main lounge. With the Proacs and sand filled stands I just keep reminding myself that this will keep me fitter over the next 10 years... once my muscles adjust!

Oh, and the speaker setup routine is instead of the record preparing regime some people engage in each day... either way, I have to take a more zen approach to doing it rather than a task approach, resulting in a better mental state.

Fair enough, and a productive way of looking at it. Sounds like you've got the best compromise already in place, which just asks a little more of your time and strength rather than sacrificing sound quality or marital harmony! Definitely the right decision!
