Due to reading many positive reviews about the TKD Potentiometer, I have wanted to try one for a while. After deciding not to dismantle the prototype BT2 to build my new one, i needed a new Stepped Attenuator. It's the only part i didn't have two of. I decided that it was the ideal time to try one, and do a proper comparison. The TKD arrived today so i put it into the BT2. First impressions are that it is better than an Alps Blue, but a fair bit behind the stepped attenuator. I'll explain: The low frequency extension seems to go a long way further than the Alps Blue. The Blue seems rolled off a little in comparison to the TKD or the Stepped Attenuator. Imaging is almost "diffused" Vs the ultra clear and clean SA image. In comparison to the Blue, it is better, but not wildly. It's actually as wide as either the SA, both beating the Blue in this regard. It's not as deep as the SA, but again edges the Blue. doesn't sound as veiled as the Blue either, which is another positive. Overall, in the two hours it's been installed, I am not unimpressed. I do not have the urge to hit it with the hammer. There are moments i have forgotten it is there, so thats all very positive. It's got detail. Resolution is good, and it's very balanced sounding. It misses the levels set by what is a very good stepped Attenuator, but its £40-50 less and doesnt need building lol I'll add a few more thoughts in the coming days.

Saving £40 or 50 sounds good to me.

Not quite foundation hardcore material then? 🙂 No, not quite. The TKD did ok.
