As usual, I tend to write a short review about anything new to the "Bighouse"
Having only had covid, Omicron (possibly, not had the manual yet) I can confirm it's made a huge impression me.
Being a relatively experienced person with other germs, I didn't think I'd be as "knocked off my feet" as I am. I mean, having had Meningitis, Meningococcal and several bouts of Man Flu, you'd think I'd "seen it all"
Well folks, whilst covid hasn't (as of yet) pushed me into an early grave, it's a serious upgrade over man flu!
Having bought into the early subscription service of two vaccinations on a "free lifetime trial" I must admit that my subsequent side effects of trigeminal Neuralgia after the second software upgrade curtailed the eagerness of the option of third software upgrade, called "booster"
Obviously many internet forum experts (flat earthers) suggesting the "booster vaccination" or "software upgrade 3" as it's known in the HiFi world, were somehow pointless...."think of a Linn with a solidly fixed subplatter"
I can only say I'm pleased that I ignored the initial "naysayers" and bought into upgrades 1&2, as I hate to think how I'll I would be if I hadn't of had them. I am now thinking that I should have gone for Upgrade 3, as now the offer is withdrawn for at least 13 weeks.
Typical me, missing the boat.
Anyway, I've written this in jest, but seriously boys and girls, this variant may not be a brutal or deadly as the Delta or other variants (according to some medical sources) but if you can avoid it by getting a booster, I'd highly recommend it.

I have been boosted… The crazy thing is one of my family members is +ve, and they want to isolate, but a large part of the family want to get together to celebrate Christmas. I refuse to willingly expose myself to this.
I hope you are feeling better soon.

Sorry to hear about your disappointing new acquisition, Oli.
I had the same sort of thing with a Linn Unidisk silver disc (disk?) spinner. It was a really unpleasant experience. I was glad when it went away.
Interesting, too, in more serious vein, that it does seem to be the booster that makes the difference with Omicron. Can I nominate you as Bell End for this Week for not getting the booster? You seem to be on a roll here.
Wishing you a rapid recovery.
My sister in law, a retired medic, thinks I've got Long Covid. If so, it's a mild form - maybe thanks to having been double jabbed - and to have been caused by a largely asymptomatic form of the virus. I didn't have the usual awful symptoms of the virus proper. Having looked it up myself now I've certainly had the main reported symptoms of Long Covid. But after just a couple of months it has now largely gone. Symptoms - tiredness, brain fog (the Mrs was seriously worried for a while that I had finally totally lost my marbles), insomnia, light sensitivity... and another typical symptom that I forget offhand. Maybe memory loss?
It could be another type of post viral syndrome, but it seems to tie in best with Long Covid.

In all seriousness, I've had some seriously disturbing side effects of the jab. Muscle tremors, shaking hands, heart palpitations, trigeminal neuralgia......so the thought of perhaps making all of that worse for a third jab seemed like the wrong move. All of this confirmed by the Doc and the BMJ by the way. I'm not just sat here blaming the jabs for illnesses! I am an official stat in the "side effects" area of the scientific community! I hope your long covid gets out of your system soon mate. It's obviously on the mend...just slow going.

This is my plan… The wife is asthmatic, and the daughter is not vaccinated. Why look for trouble, and then have to self Isolate?

So far, so good in that respect but it has gone straight to chest infection type feel. Lots of coughing etc. Have a small Christmas mate. Keep them all safe.

^ That's fair enough, Oli, and sounds very grim, difficult or impossible to know what to do for the best.
I hereby withdraw my nomination of you as BEOTW.
Look after yourself.

That's the thing, Jerry. I genuinely didn't know what to do for the best. If I don't get any long lasting issues from having covid, then I may have done the right thing in my opinion. But who knows!

When that was proved untrue the outcome of, how ever many upgrades you had, was a reduced effect on your illness when infected, totally unprovable. So my question is, what science did you follow to think that you may have been worse without vaccination? Gary

Based on how I felt last night, if I could have had a jab, I'd have had one straight into my eye. It was a light hearted post likening having COVID to writing a hifi review, that's all.

Hospitalisation cases are almost 50% higher for unvaccinated. That's pretty convincing data.
It was never claimed that the vaccine would entirely prevent someone from catching covid. Not by anyone with proper medical credentials anyway.
There's enough data now that there is no-one credible arguing that the vaccine is totally ineffective.

It was a bit of a light hearted post whilst feeling a bit grim, so other than surface knowledge of what's going on, I haven't done any research at all. I'm not anti Vax, or pro Vax. Oli, I really do hope you are feeling better soon. Even without a hospital-grade condition, I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Jerry, We've two friends who got covid in the early spring and suffered with long-covid for six months after, the fully debilitating kind, so I'm glad yours seems to be exiting.
We're getting together with two other families on Christmas day, but all of us have been triple jabbed, taken care these past months, and will have a lateral flow test on the morning. ...cuz I don't want to be in bed with any kind of real flu, Covid or not.

Hope you're feeling better soon mate. I've had the two jabs plus the booster and following all three luckily just had a sore arm for a couple of days. Some other friends and family haven't got off so lightly and have been quite unwell for a few days. None that I know of with long Covid though. Luckily, none of my immediate family have caught Covid and TBH I don't really want to catch it and test out my immune system so I'm afraid we'll be keeping our heads down for a couple of weeks. We will be having two visitors on Christmas day and that will be it over the festive period. Lateral flow test all round before their visit though. I hope everyone has a nice, peaceful Christmas. Stay safe and well everybody.

Hope you're feeling better soon.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, it's not a vaccine, it's a temporary symptom suppressant, with limited lifespan.
Polio, smallpox, measles, mumps rubella, they're vaccines. They stop you getting it, make passing it on impossible.
This Sh#t we have now is what happens when medical companies want a perpetual revenue stream. Its the same reason there's no cure for aids, why there's been no new true vaccines developed in the past 20 years.
Because a cure doesn't make companies rich.

vaccine /ˈvaksiːn,ˈvaksɪn/ Learn to pronounce noun a substance used to stimulate the production of antibodies and provide immunity against one or several diseases, prepared from the causative agent of a disease, its products, or a synthetic substitute, treated to act as an antigen without inducing the disease. "every year the flu vaccine is modified to deal with new strains of the virus"

I have been really careful for the whole pandemic and managed to catch it about a month ago. I am double jabbed, was waiting for my booster. I felt really crap for 6 days, high temp, coughing, sneezing, knackered. I did three negative LF, when I lost taste and smell I did a PCR that came back positive.
Cutting a long story short, I am feeling fine now, completely over it... but no taste or smell. Hope you bounce back asap, and are as fortunate as I have been.

The amusing thing is that she wants to isolate (but as she lives in the same hamlet as the in-laws, that is not going to happen). It is the other me,bears of the family that want to spend the day together. I can see words being had on Saturday morning, so I had better brush up on a polite French expression for “You are all being fu@#*** stupid”. The in-laws are no spring chickens, the brother in-law is diabetic, so it is a recipe for disaster. I would rather not go, but the wife is upset about not being able to see her parents at Christmas. When do I tell her that it is two years since I have seen any of my family, so I know exactly how that feels? Not looking forward to Chrimbo this year…. They all seem to think that the vaccine is a miracle cure, and will stop anybody catching Covid. As far as I know, that is not true, and the level of protection varies from person to person, and I am not one for taking chances with my health…

My sister in-law told the wife that she had COVID two weeks back and her eyesight hasn't been the same since. Apparently this is quite common. I genuinely didn't know that, but my eyes were a little off yesterday but I seem to be back in focus today. It's tough on people but I genuinely don't think we'll ever be fully rid of it.
