Hated air-con when I lived abroad, always used a floor standing fan.

36 indoors must be getting close to health risk levels. It can’t last much longer.

at last we've had some clouds today..down to 30 inside and 30 outside..feels cold lol It got really hot here today. A bit of wind disguised it but now we have the worst of all worlds: Just as the sun loses its heat, it’s clouded over, which will trap the heat in. Aircon has been on an hour and set to targetb17 degrees yet it’s still 30.7. The open plan living area is too big to cool with one aircon unit, especially with the 14 ft ceilings. It’s not that wide (just under 12 feet) but it’s 33 feet long and L shaped reaching 25 feet where it houses the kitchen. That’s quite a volume of air to cool. I was offered a mich bigger aircon unit but they are so damn big and ugly it’s like having a jet engine stuck on your wall. Eventually I want to build my own place to a different spec, with proper insulation and solar reflecting properties. I’ll also head well inland to higher ground. Probably a few years away though.

Unlikely to rain here between May and October. It’s no loss though, because the humidity either side of rain in the warm weather totally annihilates ant relief from the downpour. I’m finding myself drawn to th more mountainous areas these days. Winters are much colder but they have amazinfg air quality, insanely good local food and views I thought only God and birds were meant to behold. Moving out there for good when you can’t drive is a big step though.

I keep casting an eye in the direction of the Azores. The climate looks just right to me, never too hot or too cold. At my age though I doubt it's worth all the unpheaval of moving there. Still, the cost of living is low and being retired, that is an attractive point.

I’m going to have to do some reading on them. I do like their geographic location though.

I’m going to have to do some reading on them. I do like their geographic location though. The crime rate is low, and it's politically very stable, probably even more so than the comparativley placid parent Portugal mainland. Health care is reported to be decent. The Portugese that I've met have always seemed pleasant too. If strife or a war kicks off anywhere, I reckon the Azores is one of the least likely places to be affected. There's a fair UK expat contingent there too and the locals apparently cope with English speakers well enough. All plus points.

when we retire in 11 years time we may move back to the uk..nice bungelow in cornwall or devon. maybe another option will be to buy a summer house here or a small house for about 30k and a villa in spain.11 years is too far away to plan for.. be sooo nice to be around to be around english speakers again though..swedish language does my friken head in..learnt nothing in the 13 years i've lived here..never will either..moved here too old.

yep..great way to get around..100mpg and insurance almost nothing..if we move to spain it'll be a convertable c6 or c7 corvette and a light motorbike to pop out and get some morning bread..

^^^^^^^^ Not exactly your daily transport to get the bread in. Ok if you've got more money than God, and want to do 300 km. Suns broken through here, another super day, not too hot.

Even here on the coast it's stifling now. despite weather warnings, the local primary schools were all out at lunchtime in the full sun and how many support staff make sure the kiddies wear their sun-cream?
I'm minded of a favourite track '92 Degrees' by Siouxsie and the Banshees. '92F' is around 33.33C and we're getting close to it here... (Can't remember the 1950's film where the first spoken/shouted line was taken from, but I have watched it)
