Whoops, if you're only looking for fanboy responses I guess I shouldn't reply.
Mind you, I've only heard them at shows, but nothing I heard made me put them on my Want List.
But many folks do seem to love them .... many possible reasons for that, of course.... Horses for courses, synergy, hearing problems, brain damage.
Hee hee. Only kidding. If they do it for you, great!

never heard any but they look to be well-engineered which you'd hope so for the price.
I see they used the old show demo trick of playing a recording with a ton of artificial reverb and no bass.

They sound mighty thin on that recording to me.
I smells "listener fatigue"
Could be wrong as it's only a video 📸

I don't know since they took the precaution of not playing something with bass.
Don't know how they measure but other Magicos are all impressively flat except for roll off at the very top end.
it's only a small two-way sealed box, it's never going to have impressive bass, and with it being a two-way anything with a lot of bass will screw up the mid-range.
If I had twenty grand to spend on speakers it wouldn't be on my short list. Or even my long list.

I suppose they are American speakers and Americans tend to see adding at least a couple of subwoofers to any speaker system as mandatory so I suppose in that context they would work, but then you've got the cost of the subs on top of the £20K for the speakers.
The 'bang for buck' with these sort of speakers just doesn't work for me. Like that show I went to where they had the JBL 4365. At £10K they were cheaper than almost every other speaker at the show but they embarrassed all of them in every respect. It wasn't even close. Why would you pay more for less?

I'm always surprised by what people buy.

with respect to loudspeakers, yes, so am I.
Seems lots of people are still very influenced by what the magazines, Youtube influencers and dealers have to say. And that price = performance is a given.

I find the whole topic of "dream speakers" to be a fascinating one.
I've achieved my own dream. And I've heard a few systems where the owners feel the same way. It's totally astonishing how different they all are from each other!

People look to achieve different things I suppose.
Plenty of people whose dream speaker is the LS3/5a
As with many things the idea is as important as the reality.
I'm pretty happy with where I got to. Sometimes wish the bass would go a bit deeper but that's only on some music.

A lot of people (expectedly so) do not understand what they are buying. I've seen this so often in this hobby that I am no longer surprised by it's frequency. There's a lust for something that takes the eye and they are swept off their feet in a wave of stimulus. I have done that myself, but nowadays I try to look at things more objectively and with a clearer understanding of what I'm looking at. I get a lot of help with that. HiFi is dangerous lol

yes - I was lucky in that by the time I had money to burn on hi-fi I'd already learned enough to know how to avoid doing that.

I've heard a couple of pairs at length, original mini's, the floorstaing v2 and v3. They were all capable of astonishing resolution. They all needed huge wattage up them though to get them going and floorstanders could be bland beyond belief at low levels in a small room.
Defo speakers for 5m plus room and 500 Watts.

Never heard the S1's, but I do recall Derek Jenkins (RIP) telling me he enjoyed the mk.1 version, I've heard the 3 and the 5's, preferred the mk.1 versions also. Magico's are extremely impressive for the first 10 minutes, then you want to get out of the room pretty damn quick, they are just too much. Valves maybe a good match for them, always thought Acoustic Research and Wilson speakers were a good match, but YG speakers are a different kettle of fish, enjoyed them every time I've heard them.

Just not good value for money, that's my only criticism.
if I won the lottery or something I'd certainly have a listen to the big ones on my world tour of speaker auditioning.

never knew he was connected with it but he does seem to be director of the parent company and one of his other companies has a significant shareholding.
Not sure he'd be that hands on though. I thought they all voted on the winners? That's what they say anyway.
Maybe you're right. It is hi-fi after all.
Like they say about academia, the reason it's so cutthroat is because the stakes are so low
