This is more like it. Looks like a few pennies will be spent over Xmas. Gold plated, pure copper valve sockets.....just to give you an idea of what's going on 🤣 We must be bonkers

I sounds like you've really gone into incredible detail. This is the sort of audio I look forward to assessing.

This is the sort of audio I look forward to assessing. We have. The motto on this one was "performance over price" We had to get Craig (PCB designer) to manually create the footprint for the 7 pin socket as one didn't previously exist. We've got some rather tasty USSR polystyrene caps that are matched already and were using some made to measure film and foil coupling caps. I've saved 30 of the best JFETS ive heard for the first few builds. They now obsolete, so there won't be any more, so once they are gone, they are gone. Gold plated 7N OCC Copper for the now mega small lengths of hookup wire we need. Loading is now done by jumpers on the PCB. No external sockets or wiring to pick up RF We're going to use two transformers, one for each side and we're going to mount them in such a way as to negate the magnetic field issues. I have 10 pairs of matched Russian military valves, all 'OS' versions. 2oz copper and 2mm thick PCBs.... As you can see, we've gone a bit OTT

Also some interesting hybrid implementations in the circuitry.. Yes, feel free to disclose some detail, Al....although not too much, as you never know who may be watching this thread

OK, the first stage is the unique 'triple stack' that gives such stellar MC performance but with an extra enhancement for the BBU. No further details as this is the secret sauce of the Bigbottle designs. An active load and hybrid active regulation are now included along with really low ESR supply capacitors.

Are these variations of what you did in my Croft pre-amp when you modded that? I seem to remember talking to you about this and you mentioning something similar? There is a very good reason for asking.

The mods on your Croft line stage are a simpler part of the approach as it is only a simple gain/output stage.

just postulating if your mods give a "house sound", yeah know,a specific tone or presentation to the soundstage !?! Just my musings.

I don't think so Andy as the hybrid (solid state) part is used to enhance the performance of the thermionic (valve) part. The SS is acting more as a buffer than anything else, though that's not the whole story.

Alan, thanks. I was just wondering if any traits of the Croft could or may be heard with your new design, or vice/versa. It's an interesting prospect but as you say, probably not due to the radically differenty design you've plonked in their.

The casework is yet to be identified, so Black is a possibility Good. Now get your bloody finger out. I've got 2/3 - 3/4 of the necessary ££s here waiting, and I've still got my Icons to sell. You know what I'm like when I have money to play with, it tends to burn large holes in my pocket if it sits there too long.

What loading values have you settled on for the jumpers? Also will it have/can it be fitted with inputs for 2 arms?
