I have had a few big amps through the doors recently, a Musical fidelity that was quite a beast to lift with two mahoosive transformers in. Then there were the Accuphase monos and the two Krell KSA50s's of Martin of this parish. All in about 110kg doing wonders for my woofer legs. However the prize really must go to the Krell KSA80, now this is BIG. There's just no way it would fit anywhere on my rack. It's just been fully serviced and does sound rather wonderful.

Yes, I know and understand the lure of mahoosively big amps. I've had a few myself and enjoyed them. But I like itty bitty little amps as well. I'm currently listening to 10wpc of Chinese JLH-circuited class A loveliness. Not sure I'd swap it for any of the big bruisers that have come my way. Big meters on it, too. Looking at it, you could easily imagine it weighed 40kg rather than 4kg. The heatsinks of a tidy little refurbed Quad 303 are smiling demurely at me from the shelves as well, I've not come across a significantly better sounding amp than that. Nah, you can keep the bigguns, my speakers don't need them. And my back certainly doesn't!

Stunningly good. Very enjoyable to listen to. It plays music as well as ticking the hifi boxes. A keeper. No, really!

Plus I can pick it up which I can't do with the 100, If I need to move it I have to drag it around and even that's not easy. That KSA80 is a baby by comparison.

They do look and sound phenomenal Rob , but you can buy a top specced 686 and get pretty much the same performance for 1/6 of the price (£2500). That would save you 10k there abouts There was a guy somewhere in forum land who built a 686 a while back to do a direct comparison with the gryphon Diablo and said he could hardly tell a difference between them

I'd pick the 686 everytime. Far greater transparency. Was surprised that we detected a slight veil (in relative terms to the 686) Neurochrome.....here to take over the world!

Now this is a brute boulderamp.com/products/3060-stereo-power-amplifier/Dimensions: Width 57.4cm Height 34.04cm Depth 75cm but add on the 32A IEC connector takes you to 88.2cm Weight Chassis 204.12kg Granite Base 34.02kg and if that ain't big enough you could always go for the 3050 monos

Yeh that's the one I nut and bolt rebuilt. My back has never been the same. It was so heavy when carrying it into the house I couldn't step up into the kitchen via the back door. ( that's a pathetic 8 inch step)
And every corner was bloody razor sharp..

I think two people are supposed to move that Simon, the clue is in the grab handles

Biggest amp I've had was a Musical Fidelity F18 power amp. A mere 53kg and it, too, had razor sharp heatsinks. I had to wear heavy duty gardening gloves to move it. Strangely, it had lovely mids and top end and a warm, soft, diffuse bass. Not at all what I expected.

Krell KSA 100 hiding behind my speaker, a couple of 'normal' amps next to it for scale: A recent visitor thought it was a microwave oven.

Lol, that ksa 100 is the width of the lid of the 200 and 1/3 shorter. Ti's but a baby.

yes but on the plus side when your carting it around there's no chance of being impaled by the spiky heatsinks of death

No that one has always worked fine. It's just too heavy for me to carry it to the upstairs storage room on my own.
Going to put it up for sale at some point anyway so I'm not carting it up there just to bring it back down again.
