This winged it's way over from the far east this week. I wanted to try a 'proper' XLR cable between my DAC and pre-amp (previously using Mogami with Neutrik plugs). This is made of 6N OCC and the plugs I'm fairly sure, are genuine copper. It's quite stiff and has some EMI suppressant blocks on it, comes in a nice box and has some cool tags on it. How does it sound? Well, in a word better . . . . much better. Not going to go overboard on the descriptions but suffice to say everything is improved. I'm getting more bass, bigger soundstage, richer timbre and more precise instrument placement. Things have also improved a little front to back. I'm going to try it between my pre-amp and power amp soon but at the moment I'm loving what it's doing in this position. Probably going to snap another one up as for the price I'm finding it difficult to see any downsides.
If anyone is interested they are here: www.aliexpress.com/item/4000993616933.html?spm=a2g0o.placeorder.0.0.75ad321ej4tgq4&mp=1

Ooh, looks propa! However I'm dubious that the plugs are gold plated copper, only way to find out is to file through the gold plating and see what colour the metal is.

Cat in hell's chance I'm going to take any abrasive material to them to be fair but I take your point. They are definitely an improvement at this stage and real copper or not, that's the goal for me . . . . Would look even better hanging out the back of a Pegasus though . . . .

Yeah, they look heavy duty! Did you know Alan has two R-2R DACs and will probably have a Pegasus he doesn't need.....I'd start wearing him down now if I were you

Actually a little different but both have their (large) appeal. I have a suspicion the Pegasus would be a good fit for me as my current setup is super revealing and benefits from some 'warmth'. Not that Alan's isn't, I think his is probably very neutral, hence being able to hear differences in equipment. The Seokris did have more layers front to back but the Pegasus added a little more body to the sound in places. Maybe with a proper power supply mod it would equal on that count too . . . . Haha, I got the impression Alan was quite fond of it . . . although I did harbor a thought of just sneaking it out in 'secluded' area on my person . . . .

Yeah, there was a definite midrange "warm band" that filled the sound with a little more body. I totally agree with that. I liked the layering ability of the Soekris though, and it's greater detail retrieval

I think it's rather excellent to have both flavours, plus both are going to undergo modifications on the power supply front.
