Andrew You could save your shelf some work here, I would look at purchasing an ultrasonic cleaner for the TT parts, we have been using them for 20 years or so to thoroughly clean the Oracle's. The only difference is the bath's have got more impressive and the cost has dropped. They are around couple of hundred £ for medium 12 liter tank, it also makes for a professional end result Yep we already use them.

More of the Lenco Resto. She's now known as 7000
7000 has been stripped down.
Dodgy paint and metal scruffs mean's 7000 is now going to need a new paint job!
And finally 7000 is naked....
More at some point when I get time. Stay tuned...

Today we received a massive beast of a Lenco PTP 5 fitted with lots of Polish goodies. Pics to follow at some point, it's a bit poorly so we've been asked to fix it. Lovely, another Lenco deck.

You seem to be picking up work very quickly Rex, well done! Enjoying the pics and appreciate you sharing them here. Yes I think it's probably because I've done a lot of restorations. I'm a complete sucker for those decks which look like complete they should live in a skip! The PTP needs a fair bit of work. I'll be refurbishing the bearing alongside fitting some upgrades. The idler arm needs to be upgraded and restored and then I'll be setting up the tonearm. I have a new toy, a FOZGOMETER!

Some more pictures of the Lenco I'm restoring. I've not done much work on 7000 this week as I've just started working on a Lenco PTP 5. Anyway, here's the top plate with corrosion removed and polished ready for priming.
The transit screws needed some work. So here's a before and after shot.
I've also polished the outer rim of the platter but I'm not very happy with the finish so I'll re-do that. Stay tuned!

Here's the PTP 6 that I've been asked to work on. She's a really beauty. The tonearm is a 12" carbon fibre design I've never herd before. It's been mated with a Denon 103. PAB is a Polish company that I've never heard of before, they make some cool stuff. The whole thing weighs ~30kg. I only just managed to get the thing spinning today. So tomorrow i'll start work on the idler arm and bearing.

It's birch ply.

I know PAB make some fairly expensive isolation products, especially stands, Lotus HiFi used to sell their stuff. The deck looks fab though.

Pt V - More progress. Progress on 7000 is going well. I have been spending a little time preparing the top plate. I've now got to wait 24 hours for the primer to harden before I can spray. So here is how the top plate looks at the moment. It's been slightly modified and can no longer accept a standard Lenco tonearm.
I decided to start work on the Idler arm today. The idler wheel is knacker, the rubber has split and there is no way to refurbish this. I will be replacing with a new idler wheel. I did manage to polish the idler arm. The rubber grommet is in good condition and has been refurbished. I will also be replacing the fibre washers on the idler arm with Teflon and a collar kit to stop the idler wheel from wobbling. Here's the knackered idler wheel Idler wheel mount before polish and cleaning.
And then after a clean.
A tale of two idler arms. Top idler arm is polished and refurbished. The bottom idler arm is installed on a PTP 6 awaiting refurbishment and upgrades.
And here is everything that's been done as well. I have also polished the speed selector linkages.
That's it for tonight! Stay tuned.

Looking good. If you are wrapping the idler arm in teflon then why spend time polishing?

Hi Jim, I've 3 other guys at the moment wanting their Lenco's sorting. I'm not putting any arm on this one. Once it's finished it's up for sale.

I've done a good number but mainly tweaked and changed the same ones (currently have about 4 or 5 but only one in use - the first one I got some 27 years ago I have left original apart from the usual changes - v-blocks etc). A lot of the tweaks that have been passed down over the years are good but not always necessary to be honest. I found that the Teflon tape works but to look neater and to get the same result is to use epoxy paint. Tried this about 10 years ago and does what it says on the tin But, so long as the motor is a good one and the idler wheel is also good with the correct angle of attack then things like the string change for the spring or wrapping the arm in something are most of the time not perceptible. Also, I have had some good result with not using high mass plinths - again so long as everything is in fine fettle - you can get very good results with less. Wish I had documented everything I did but sometimes you just want to try different things to see what happens (or in most cases, not)! I like what you have done and the end results are good looking (which is very important) and sonically they work (bonus)

I would agree that Hugh mass is not always the way to go and I've started experimenting with PTP and permali.
