ok how many of you lot have ya house mortgage all done and dusted.
we took on a 180k mortgage march 2007 to build a brand new house ..we sold our stocks and shares and the mustang and paid 80k in cash last july as a final payment..now we live like royalty...can buy a new car whenever we want..holidays when ever..
i had a rule in my head i had to be mortgage free by the time i hit 50..i missed my goal by 2 years..mainly coz my ex wife almost ruined me...
ok how many of you OWN your house rather than the bank owning it

I only owe a couple of grand which I could pay tomorrow, just haven't got round to doing it yet. You can't just walk into the building society and pay over the counter anymore so it's not straightforward. There used to be a branch in the next town but it's a hairdresser's now.

I’ve been free of it for maybe 7 or 8 years. I won’t rule out another one in my lifetime just yet. Depends on what I buy and where.

Good job you don’t live in some parts of London. You could probably hand over 2k to a hairdresser and still be short of what they charge for a haircut.

dickheads here mainly only pay interest on their loans...and buy expensive cack german cars on hire purchase or lease aswell.. soon rates will rise here i predict half the country going bankrupt. house prices like the uk have gone through the roof here..many retard swedes just loan even more money to buy cack coz they think that their houses are worth so much that have more money to spend.. i know one dickhead that's 63 and just took on a 300k interest only mortgage lol

Took me 20 years to pay this one off I'm not getting another one now.
Funny though, 20 years ago I would have said being debt free was my dream, but now I am I'm not really that bothered one way or the other.

Cost of food must be really high there, or do you just live well? Our food bill here will be under 250 Euros a month. But then we are both keeping the calories very low and lots of produce here is cheap when you shop where the locals go.

Jeez! I can’t really eat it too often but 99 vents buys you a gorgeous village loaf here. Weighs almost a kilo and it’s wonderful stuff, Sam long as you aren’t on a diet.
It is all relative, just try being a wage worker here. It’s laughable how little they earn. But nobody cares because the best things here are free and you can enjoy them just the same whether you’re on skid row or living the high life.
Booze is cheap here too. Best beer I’ve ever had is 63 cents a can. Nice wine is 1 Euro 40 a litre. I’d guy eat crap like fish fingers and processed crap you will pay way more than decent fresh food.

I rent. There is an obsession with owning a house in this country which I don't understand. I can be out of here in 4 weeks if I want to - I couldn't live without that freedom.

It’s definitely a thing that varies from country to country. The UK makes it easy to buy and sell without too much rake off for the state. Property booms have created so much wealth, I’m not sure they would ever change it. That’s why I think many people re will be another boom once Brexit is out of the way, one way or another

I had never heard of a "chain" before I got to the UK. And all this "subject to contract" stuff. I was dumbfounded: "you have to do what??" "Why aren't you moving?" "I thought you said you had sold it"
Where are you Westie? How does it work there?

Currently living in Cyprus. I’ve had a few places here over the years. Anyone buying here should buy a book on the subject and read it several times. Then get a lawyer recommended by the British Consulate. It can be a minefield, especially if buying off plan.

I rented until I was 30. When I got a mortgage I did feel trapped for the first 10 years or so then I got used to it. When I work out how much I've saved compared to renting it feels like it was worth it. It's an astronomical amount.

I know where you are coming from. I was stripped of money, self-respect, childeren, house and, in the end, sanity - and that while all alone in a foreign country too.
We handle it in different ways - I think it is to somehow get our self-respect (or whatever) back. Sounds like you ain't doing too bad - i wasn't taking a dig at you - it wasn't sarcastic.

1 year ago this week we paid off the remaining 80k mortgage we had. it was 10 minutes before they close on a friday afternoon..i was high like i was on crack i tells ya..nervous aswell..we walked into his office and said right we want to pay off our mortgage. ok so you sold the house?
nope i said..come on lets do it..he was shocked..10 minutes later and about 20 clicks of his mouse this house we built ourselves was all OURS..one of the greatest days of my life.. me and marie drove home singing i tell you. now no matter what life throws at us NOBODY can ever take our home of us..now if you rent STOP IT ASAP ok..if you have a mortgage stop buying cack and put all you effort into doing this..your life will change beyond recognition.. we then bought a 30k car in cash ofc just 5 months later..this is how having no mortgage will make your life better. i can tell my boss to f off when i want to..the wife earns 60k plus a year and we can live easily off that.. LIFE CANNOT BE BETTER HAVING NO DEBTS no rent..nothing to pay out except electric ect.. now we have 11 years untill retirement to buy a villa in spain..that will be dead easy.
PAY OFF YOUR DEBTS ASAP lads..you will not regret it one single bit
i wake each work day and look at the final payment recipt on the wall in the hall and smile..knowing i am no longer slaving away for the bank.. in fact now on a good month we save the wifes entire salary..on a bad month we save all mine..never save less than 2.5k a month..this month we'll save almost 4k lol.. how can life get any better?

this is why we paid off all our mortgage. today all of sweden gets paid..our total outlay today is 700 quid for all bills..electric. broadband, phones, water, sewage. we took home between us around 6k after tax...1500 quid to get through the month and that leaves us 4000 quid today direct into the savings account...we do that every single month now.. one year on and it's the best thing we ever did..ofc we have spent a lot since febuary 21k new car 2k fiber broadband 2k new tv and pc 1300 quid on my teeth 1300 quid new gaming laptop for our son. so since we cleared the mortgage we have saved that much..about 4k...but saving around 4k a month equals almost 50k a year lol..so in 12 months time we'll have about 80k in the bank lol

24 months time we'll have 130k in the bank. 36 months time 170k in the bank enough to buy a lambrohini huracan then next april we have to part with 17k on a mopedcar for our son so the savings will dip for a while..17k will take us just over 4 months to save up though...weird i tell ya living like this..having tons of spare money..i kinda feel how lottery winners feel..ofc only small scale but it's FEKIN AWESOME I TELL YA. NO STRESS..NEVER AGAIN..even if one of us falls sick here in sweden u get 80% of your salary untill you're better..so we're safe forever. mainly because of the wife. she's a specialist nurse and only works nights.she actually earns more then most doctors because of her shift paterns..she works a weekend night she earns about 500 quid a night.. i think i landed on my feet with her lol..
