Right now I am most likely to stick with my Sonneteers. I have usually gone for more kickass stuff but the impact wears off after a bit, and you’re left chasing a bit more stimulus. These bits seem to be far more even and appeal to another side of me. One I didn’t know existed. I still look at things like Leben, but it would be a passing fancy right now. I’m not inclined to upset what I have.
I’m still getting to know the Duevel Planets and I will never part with my Spicas. I’d have done it by now if that was a possibility. I will probably keep both but use the Planets more regularly because they are less of an intrusion on the room.
Cables? My home brew speaker cables are the best I’ve had and interconnects and mains aren’t usually worth the faff of experimenting, I have some decent ones but nothing flash.
All I really foresee me buying is another turntable. Not a clue what, but that’s my only planned purchase.
Anyone else thought about where they are headed? Anyone saving up? Anyone certain to stick with what they have for good?

I just need to get some cabs built for these Tannoy drivers I've got lying around and then that's it. Need to acquire another Technics SLP1200 as a spare just in case the one I have becomes u/s. These players are old and they do develop faults but it's rarely an issue with the laser so a good double E can always sort them and I know a couple of good ones. But if I have a spare I'm covered while the other one is away being fixed.
I'm 50 in October so the Tannoys are a present to myself. 30 years in the hi-fi game, man and boy. Hardest game in the world, taken me three decades to finish it.

I always think that the front-end has to be right. I only do CDs and therefore I'd have to replace my CA cxc - and I'm not so sure the next step up (whatever that may be) will offer me much bang for my buck - am open to suggestions in that department.
So, no, not sure at all when it is going.
Macca, always good to think about a backup Technics - a mate at work has one and he is also worrying about the same thing.

I hadn’t thought about a backup laser for the Byron, I will have to look and see what it uses. Good point.

Some of you will probably have heard me talking about turntables. I’ve had and sold a few without ever bothering to try them. I almost bought another Analogue Works recently. Well I have simply returned to a PS-6750. This is my third one so they must do something right, I will probably not get to play with it until September or Oct but they are a good, no fuss deck.
With an OL mat in place of the gel one, it sounded 99% identical to my Xerxes/Xenon MCS in an AB comparison with near identical carts. Nothing usually sounds that close, especially a Jap DD but that’s how it was. Will I keep it long term? Who knows but it requires no setup other than fitting a cart into the head shell, so there’s a better than even chance I will actually use this one.

A CXC with a DAC is something I'd like to have a go with. But I'm trying to resist temptation to buy more kit until I've reduced my stockpile a bit more.

Well, I have a Marantz CD6005 which have compared with the cxc. I believe it has the same transport as the CD6006 and even the CD5005 - a real bargain CD player if you just want a transport.
I have had no problems with the cxc so far. But you are right about the Marantz players - mine fares pretty well against the cxc, just as a transport.
I am also not planning any upgrades - all I said was, that if I did, it would have to be the frontend. Like you say - the next step up is almost £1000 in the CD player world. I am not sure there is that much more information I can get off a CD really.

I have used Marantz players as transports before, they have always sounded good to me. DPA built the T1 transport from a Marantz CD42. They wouldn’t have done somif it didn’t have the necessary atttributes. I’m not usually a fan of the players but as transports they certainly give you good value. Never heard or even seen a CXC, but plenty people say good things. I just have a bit of a snobbery thing about Cambridge Audio but I know I’m being daft.

I would not buy any more of their stuff. I was taken in by the beginner's WhatHifi blurb and have since sold the cxa60 and the Dacmagic I purchased.
