i've been wanting to move my counterweight a little nearer the pivot on my tonearm. its a all in one affair so no chance of adding extra weights on the stub so i came up with what i thought was a ingenius idea. the cover plate on the front is held on by 2 screws,i decided i would make another one but thicker. turning down some aluminum round bar to 26.90mm. once done i just used engineers blue and scribed where the holes are. holes drilled. next i parted off the new plate and used wet stones to give a fine surface. the weight of the original. disaster!!!! my new plate weighs 2 grams!! despite doubling up the thickness. i suspect the original is made of brass. all is not lost as i just used the 2 together.

Looks like you could put a much thicker one on and get the c/weight closer?

Good work. Rather jealous of the tools you have available.

got some brass stock in last week so i finished off this project. i discovered it so much quicker if you buy the metal as near to the finished size as possible! it took no time no knock one up, in fact i made a few in different thicknesses just for experimentation.

Jamie, you've really come a long way since I first met you. I LOVE that work and the finish is superb. Let's have a convo about some stands for the Yams, when you have time and if you fancy it.
