I've a rather excellent Primaluna Prologue 5 power amp, and with its clever autobias system it can happily accommodate a wide variety of power valves. 6550, EL34, 6L6,KT88/90/120 and many others. Great fun. What it can't do is accept my favourite power valve, the EL84. But I've come across adapters like these that would appear to solve the problem. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Amptata-EL84-6BQ5-6P14-To-6V6-Vacuum-Tube-Converter-Adapter-Pre-Amplifier-Guitar-/173537105647Anyone got experience with them? Views on technical issues/safety etc.?.... some they could loan or sell me?

Hotrox sell these TAD converters. .. www.hotroxuk.com/tad-class-a-converter-pen-tone-price-per-pair.html"The TAD CLASS-A CONVERTER allows the use of EL84 tubes instead of the 6L6GC, 5881, EL34, KT66 and 6V6GT power tubes. The EL84 is used in pure CLASS A mode. For this, the TAD CLASS-A CONVERTER adjusts all operating voltages; automatically and without intervention on the amplifier or its setting."

I guess they would work, though how it would sound is another matter as the two valves require different loads on the primary of the output transformers.

Good point Ali. Good that the ad specifies amps that can't use the adapter for various reasons.
