yes you're probably closer to the mark with the high end prices what they are now.
Handy that you and Mark have blazed some upgrade trails for them too.
My room means I could not position them to get the best out of them, no suitable walls and they'll be too bass light in open space. Otherwise I would have had the ones on AoS already. I'm still talking myself out if it tbh.

Yes they do sound good. Of course you cannot really tell listening through headphones, but I think it gives you an idea, especially if you cannot get to any dealers. I really like this one

Strange how things work out Macca, I've been listening to quite a few vids of Tannoy's and really like them, a brand that has passed me by. Also I have liked the Fyne 500's. Fyne are apparently a company started by ex Tannoy workers.

I never heard any Fyne but yes they all ex-Tannoy people. They review well, especially the larger models.
Tannoys can sound disastrous. The 'Lancaster' is, or was , the most common one and unrefurbished are awful. Even mint the cabinets are sub-optimal. I think this partly accounts for their bad press, plus people often use crap or knackered valve amps with them which doesn't help.
Tannoys were the choice of the top studios for many years so a lot of classic albums were mixed and/or mastered using them. They make most other speakers, even large ones, sound a bit toytown by comparison.
However I think the detractors who have heard good examples and still don't like them (like Jerry) have a point to some extent. They are not perfect and ultimately I'd take a big JBL over them myself. But that is a much more expensive route.
