Well summat's brewin here in Yorkshire! I decided to have a go at making my own PTP inspired Lenco. I'll not be buying a PTP kit but simply making my own. So, I have a spare top plate that I found in the garage and I've now ordered a Dremel 4000 drill + kit to help me prepare the top plate. I intend making a whole new plinth of my own design and incorporating all those features that I dreamed up but never quite managed to install in my old '75 project. It should be fun, expensive and keep me entertained over Xmas.
Over and out....

All the usual stuff that's already been done before by other Lenco owners but not myself. So, "totally" decoupled tonearm pod away from the plinth and not something that's been attached with three screws and a decoupling gasket 8-<. A decoupled motor. An optimised PTP design. Maybe a Panzerhoz plinth. A radical new designed motor and speed control unit ) and a different take on the idler arm/wheel combination. We'll have to see. It's not going to be a redesign of the wheel more of a purer distillation of all my experiments and mods on my first Lenco 75 project.

Aye good stuff, let us know how you get on. Have a nice BTE Designs one in a teardrop shaped plinth which is highly modified. It’s a nice bit f kit.

Dremel 4000 arrived. Top plate hacking should start tomorrow. I now need to have a look at the PTP plinth design and start pricing up Panzerholz. Should be fun! My PSU and motor are being repaired in a far away country. I'll try and get some pix posted tomorrow.

The Dremel may not enjoy working with Panzerholtz......
I realise that I may be saying something obvious to you, but it's a bastard of a material to work with.
Top quality stuff though

**BREAKING NEWS** Angus - "Andrew Cunningham has retired, L T Lewis are no more, and Panzerholz is no longer readily available in the UK" Sh#t! That's a really BIG FUCKING Sh#t actually, I had really big plans. Ah well just have to look for the next viable and spec based alternative.

Top quality stuff though It'll be CNC'd I've worked with Panzerholz before but only on a small scale. I've made a couple of SME tonearm mounts, footers, and a tonearm board nothing complicated. And yes it is a bastard to work with, it sets fire very easily and it stinks.

Might have to be full boards though and they are not cheap

Might as well buy from its source then? The official word is that they are happy to do small orders, but getting it here is "crazy money".....now, considering a 1.3x2.1m piece of Panzerholz is £850ish.....i'd hate to know what "crazy money" is in comparison lol

There are alternatives to Panzerholz but just not as good. I've found an alternative but lets just see how the Panzerholz supplies pan out. I'm happy to buy a couple of sheets. I have plans to replace a few components and plinths on my Idlers and that really would be the final upgrade for several of the decks I own.

How about using some compact laminate, it is the stuff I use under my turntable and it has great sound isolation ability. Oli uses it too. My speakers are 1 foot away from my turntable and I can whack them up to rattle the windows but the turntable is not affected by vibration, maybe good in a plinth or an aluminium/steel sandwich? Only problem is cutting it as it is like iron!
It would be a first to e used in a PTP project to my knowledge.\
Just a suggestion

PS it is heavier and more substantial and has many many more layers than Panzerholz.

Thanks for the tip Jim but it's more about Damping factor than mass to be honest, and more specifically a materials ability to damp vibration within a specific Hz range. I've found a couple of similar materials to Panzerholz but with slightly worse damping factors, maybe a lot cheaper. I've got a few numbers to call tomorrow so fingers crossed.
