Great to think outside the box. Looking forward to your impressions with the Goldring Oli, I am sure from what i have read about it, it will deliver a stellar performance! Well I'm about an hour in and the initial "sting" as I call it, has already started to relax. First impressions are: Detail Detail Detail Deep but really controlled bass Spacious sound Distortion free Organised Refined. Incisive Fluidity improving with every track I likey

Oh and happy birthday Yes, it's not hard to hear it's strengths but early days means I'm still waiting to see if it develops more.. Not sure why it's not better known though? Oh, and thank you

Just a note here..I check my cart every quarter under my work microscope. You can easily tell when they're going off by the front profile. I have never got less than 1500 Lps with a proper set up and clean records. Dirty discs are the real killer in my experience.

However I didn't have a record cleaner until 18months ago and have now had to change carts three times since I bought it....maybe it's the Okki Nokki killing my carts!!!!!

My Okki Nokki does a good job, but an ultrasonic cleaner may be better.

Used the kB for nearly two years and the stylus was inspected and passed as fine when it got to Holland. Ultrasonic is my next step.

Any reasonable wet cleaner is great. But do new records aswell. The release agent needs to be washed off.

Sorry..'mold release agent.' It might be mythical but I don't want my records covered in it. Clean half a dozen then look at the mythical water colour or just play said pristine new records and then see the mythical gunk on the stylus. ๐ Also , new pressing have enough static to pull your teeth out and a wet clean works wonders.

I was chatting to a German fella a while back. Apparently there's no release agent used in vinyl record production, just pure pvc, which is off white, chemically mixed with DEHP plasticiser and carbon black.
He reckoned the bloom comes from the label ink.

A German ? A random kraut tells you in passing that mold release agent doesn't exist and you believe him ! His grandad probably told Churchill that the german navy didn't exist in the 1930's . ๐คจ . Never , ever trust a German. Look at Jurgen Klinsmann. ๐

I asked a bloke who worked in a pressing plant if there was any such thing as mould release agent and he said no.
He was not German or any foreign nationality.
Does not mean that new records don't range from slightly soiled to encrusted in filth though. Pressing plants don't have laboratory conditions.

German ones are probably quite clean and very efficient though.

Bedding in nicely and sounding very good indeed. Especially at the price point. Hoping to do a couple of needle drops soon and upload them here. Just so folks can get a sense of its flavour

Nice one Oli,
The Goldrings have caught my eye recently. I didnt know how good they were 'til I started reading up on a number of them and clocked the great reviews.
I get the sense that a lot of people, myself included tend to go with the usual offerings like Ortofon, Audio Technica etc and that more and more audiophiles are realising how good and good value some of the Goldrings are.
Look forward to more form you on this Ol'

Look forward to more form you on this Ol' I think the Goldrings of the past maybe had a bit of the old British Hifi aura about them, which really took them off most people's radar. I read that Goldring went back to the drawing board and made the ethos to be the best cartridge they have ever made. I mean it doesn't hurt that it's basically a slightly beefier Transrotor Figaro in Goldring attire. The Figaro being a top class cart made for Transrotor by Goldring. The Ethos has a sense of sophistication and finesse. A delicacy at times and at others it's quite rythmical and pacey. It's not really a muscular cart either....doesn't slam hard or swing in huge swathes but it's enough to make it capable of excitement. I like it a lot and as I said, if you can withstand the first 20hrs...it's worth consideration.

Sounds to me like it doesn't add anything or have/add too much of it's own signature/ flavour. Carts that do that, or any hifi equipment for that matter, doesn't appeal to me.
It's probably more accurate in that it will not impose itself by way of any overt character/signature, therefore allowing what's in the grooves to do the talking, as I say, with accuracy/more faith to the recording.
My Fritz Gyger S - Cadenza Black, once properly set up is like that and in my set up gives me replay that wants for nothing in terms of music and true hifidelity.
