Ive applied for a job with a financial services company and I see a big issue with their service offering. They don't know when their potential clients are most likely to need their service.
So if you could answer the following questions you could help my get the job.
1. How many months before or after your cars initial registration date is the mot due?
2. How many months before or after you cars initial registration is the insurance due?
Example, if you bought it in May and the mot falls in May then your answer is 0. If it falls in April its -1, if it falls in June its +1
Just answer like this.
1. +2 2. -3
Cheers guys, id love to get this gig.

1. 36 months after initial registration in the UK. 2. Insurance will be due on the date of purchase, which may be after the date of original registration.

Alan.
I'm asking to find out if these have drifted at all due to sorn, missed mot dates, covid, swapping insurance part way through etc.
Ie I once drove around for a month without mot and was able to do so because I moved Insurers so was still covered.
I know what the standards are, im asking for actuals.
Cheers Oli.

In the U.K. you can MOT your car early, and can effectively have 13 months MOT, but no MOT? Pass an ANPR camera, and you will be in trouble, unless you have an appointment booked, and are on your way to mot station, or garage for repairs.

Say you switch insurers half way through 5he first year, now your insurance and mot are out of sync. Dvla forgets to send your mot renewal, hey presto, you drive round insured but un mot'd.
Ive done it twice for at least a month. Anpr is linked to the insurance database, but oddly not the mot part of the same dvla database. At least it wasn't 2 years ago.

I'm pretty sure that a sorn vehicle can have a lapsed mot for as long as it is off road. Mot required as soon as road use recommenced.
I don't believe there is any period where you don't need insurance if you are on the road.

Then there is my situation.. So MOT’s have been given a 6 month extension for renewal due to Covid. So mine is now extended to Jan. But to re- tax the car you have to have a current MOT ( not an extended one as far as I’m aware). So I was fortunate enough to have been advised by my car maker to get my road tax renewed ( it was in June) or I would not be able to take the car out. Another nightmare in the middle of wife’s cancer treatment/ Shielding/ fear of virus. Looks like Fiona will have regain her immune system by end of Nov. So I’ll have to be on it to get car MOT’d before deadline. Oh, and new tyres .. oh and a service. There goes my Denafrips dac. Good luck with the job Simon... sounds like you have a good plan.

There was a 6 month extension on certain MOTs due to COVID-19 confinement.
However, you need an MOT to get road tax. The database information is shared from the DVLA so ANPR can ping you for no tax and MOT.
New cars do not need an MOT for three years, but you may neex paperwork to get your tax. This is different to changing insurance etc.

Funnily enough it was a financial services company that gave me duff information in the first place. (Well a service plan with Mercedes which is done through a financial services company).

Cagey, I dont know why, but originally and for until only a couple of years ago anpr didn't link to the mot database, it was just the insurance services database, so only did reg and insurance checks.
Thats changed now, its full dvla data as well.
