Someone has pointed out to me that I have a channel imbalance on the recent DS test tracks I did, and that my anti skate may be out. They suggested getting a test record, and recommended this one "HIFI NEWS - Test LP Producer's Cut". Anybody have experience of these things? Is the one above any good?

Well it can't be any worse than this one. . . I've used it since forever and while it really sets a gruelling test , it doesn't help you if you have an unknown parameter causing an issue. The one you mentioned should be ok I would think. But first... get all the plugs off and on a few times. I've solved a lot of balance and countless other problems with a good old scrape of the contacts. I knew it sounds too easy but try it. Speakers cables , phono cables , inters...the lot. Especially those little buggers that connect your cartridge. They are open to the elements and are Magnets ( literally ) to corrosion and gunk and skin and fluff and body fluids and battery acid ( if you have a jealous Jamaican girlfriend ) and all sorts of other things. It's free. Clean those contacts then try again. ๐ And if it doesn't work at least you've done your annual maintenance. Personally I've never solved a balance issue with skate adjustment but I've certainly found that modern carts often leave much to be desired for channel balance. Excuse moi if I'm teaching my granny to suck eggs. I never saw my grandmother suck eggs to be honest. I saw her suck the brain out of a cooked rabbits head once. But I think she just did it to scare us and stop us visiting . ๐คจ

Could be a dirty contact but isn't channel imbalance more likely to be azimuth error rather then the anti-skate?
I could use my SL1200 with the ant-skate set to zero and there was no channel imbalance.
Plus can anyone really tell there is channel imbalance from a couple of seconds of music?
And how do you know the channel imbalance is not in their system rather than yours?
