Question- How do you convert your 120 Watt valve head amp into a top notch phono pre?
Answer - Nick the valves out of it and stick em your Bigbottle mk3 !! π
Not strictly hifi but bear with me. π
As mentioned on the other thread I found out that my Souncity 120 guitar head amp has 5 (allegedly) Ecc83s in,plus the power valves. But these are hidden away a bit and tonight I decided to have a root around inside to see whats about.
It hasn't been turned on for about 30 years or so and I kind of intend to sell one day but it will need a proper service before doing so.
Thought I'd post a separate thread for this as pics to come.

So the ill gotten gains as follows π€« 4 Brimar ecc83s an a Pinnacle ECC81. Not to shabby, I half expected more Mullards but these will do.

Great find! Hope it all goes well. Thanks, sounds good atm so I'm glad the valve works, using with 2 Tesla pcc88s. Will write how its sounds after a bit more time.

The Mullards would likely go for a pretty penny, especially if you could get them tested.

Got one myself, but I havenβt built it yet and itβs still in storage. One of the kits Transcendent Sound used to do.

Thansk I'm at the other end in London bu posting is an option, I'll give it a bit of thought. Would be useful to have them tested even if I keep them I guess.
