I've been making my own fluid for a good while now. Seems to work well, but not being an expert i have always wondered what it may be doing to the vinyl. Seems nothing of note in the negative. I must get Simons "E" cleaning solution on the go. I am at the point of having a few LP's to clean so this has come about at the right time. I'll have to dig out the instructions.

Some good stuff in that article, but I disagree with what he says about no scientific way to test, there is, you flush your entire wet vac system out, run a test sample from a cleaned stainless plate and then another from a record cleaning and assay the evaporate that remains from the sucked'off liquid.
That what we did for E3 thats why we don't use stearate base surfactants and why we do use isopropyl wetting agents. Its handy having a real chemist...
Oli ill have to send you the new formulation.

I have been using a number of different solutions over the years and the science bit goes out the window. It is a matter of seeing or should I say hearing what does and doesn't work.

I would appreciate that. I now have about 10 LP's that i want to clean (i left them out for weeks like a dick)

One aspect I found was very important after the clean was the final rinse. I use plenty of distilled pure water and sometimes do 2 cleans.Although a lot of cleaning solutions will remove/ lift the crud it essential this gets vacuumed off with plenty of water.
Just my observations of course.

I use a moth cleaner and the moth cleaning fluid that came with it. I put the fluid in a spray bottle and spray it on then brush it round so i dont make a mess with it and use too much. We have a ro/di filter unit that we got for our marine fish tank so i have access to very pure water. Perhaps i should try a clean with fluid then a rinse with that. The moth should have no problem with vacuuming both off

well thats interesting, just used some rodi water as a rinse on one side of an lp that i havent cleaned with the moth before ( i used a knosti for years and got the moth recently). Cleaned both sides but only rinsed one, and it appears to have made a difference compared to straight cleaning on the other side. Surface noise has just buggered off completely on the rinsed side. Useful to know

I always apply, spread, wait, brush through grooves, vac, RO/DI rinse then final vac.

My system is a bit complex.
1. Use Simons cleaner and let it soak for 60 minutes. 2. Wash off with water (yes tap) 3. Ultrasonically clean @ 40Hz for 1 hour at 50oC 4. Wash off (tap water) 5. Use Moth RCM to vac off excess fluid. 6. PLAY THE BLOODY THING!
