It's common knowledge that I am a huge fan of the Kb. That looks to be a very nice find....in slightly jealous lol.
The AT......
For the money, unbeatable value.

There isn't a great deal between the Vienna and the Kb. The family resemblance is very strong, so I suspect the Modded Kb is not that far away from either, sitting somewhere between the two. Can't be a bad thing that you had the work done as it is a great cart to begin with

I lived with one for a few months while I waited for a few bits to come together. It's a very good cartridge but it does have a couple of niggles that I will keep to myself for now. See what Jamie thinks after extensive listening

They would be certainly on my list to try Jamie, in fact I had the Kb for a while and really liked it however my 2M Black gave it a spanking!

I must admit to having itch to try some more AT carts. I'm a little spoilt for choice at the moment as I have a few things coming in the post.

We can stick both through my BB3 and re-evaluate at some point. In my experience, the SUT makes or breaks a cartridge, and more often or not it's not a good thing to have in the chain imo.

It is a well known fact that Jimbo loves his 2M Black. I had one for a wh8le, but moved it on, as it was not for me. Cartridges are such a personal choice, and heavily system dependant. I want to get myself an ART-9, but I am being sensible until I know my job is secure.

I am sure the BB3 will make a way better fist of bringing out the best in both MC cartridges to the point it maybe a level playing field with the 2M FGS

As you know Jim, I felt it a wee bit strident in original guise, but no doubt from your review a while back that Kilian has removed this. I totally expect it to be a top class cart. I wasn't suggesting you need a BB3 for such conclusions, just that it has MM/MC built in, and thus it would be far easier and probably fairer by using one rather than adding suts and extra cables with the Croft. Any MM/MC Phonostage would be sufficient.

ive not read anything negative about it so my only concern was how it fairs to the kb,fortunately after 30 mins of listening i didn't feel the need to remove it and put the kb back in lol.

so after listening all day and swapping the cartridges here's my thoughts. the AT-33 is a great cartridge for the money no doubt but does it better my Ortofon Kontrapunkt b ? Well no is the answer, whilst it does take you on a lovely detailed journey which would seem not to be lacking it was not until i put my Ortofon Kontrapunkt b back in that i realised what id been missing, this one has i was told by the seller only 20 hrs use and gawd does it sound like it,immediately i was struck by the meaty drive this cartridge has, strings also have a tactile nature to the sound now, there is more energy and verve. The Ortofon Kontrapunkt b will be staying on,the AT-33 will be going back its stay here was pleasant enough but has made me appreciate the ortofon even more now.

That's the exact journey I took on my path the the HA103-SEL and it's absolutely right what you say. The AT has bags of performance for the money and is easily worth its price but you get so much more of everything from the kB. I am very interested in your thoughts Vs the Vienna'd Kb
