Excellent! Been really great to watch the build in real time. It's not finished yet! I still have a power button conundrum to solve, as my trusty, but slightly ugly toggle switch has been rejected lol I have some black push button switches, which would be perfect, except the led is amber, I think, rather than the requested blue. Alan is gonna have a look at the switches I have as I have stuck 12v up them and the LED won't light up...however, Alan thinks he knows why. I will see how that goes and then see where the land lies. Traffo isn't here yet either, so we are in limbo until it makes an appearance. I'll use the downtime to start reboxing Mikeybs BB3 though. He's just had his MK1 back, restored to its original glory, which has bought me a week or so I reckon lol

Oli, which tubes you finally decided to use? Jayson Hi Jayson Well, I thought I was nailed on with the National PCC88s and the Tung-Sol ECC8O3s, but seeing as I was gonna give this a little run in, I put a NOS 6N2P-EV platinum in, and it's been absolutely epic... Can't get the Platinum ones anymore, or at least I can't find them, and I have 4, so was just internally debating letting you have one to accompany the National PCC88s. Honestly, this combination has given my full body goose bumps more than once in the last hour.

It looks simply elegant Oli. Yep I think I made the right choice of black finish. I really like it. Just donโt stick a bloody toggle switch in both boxes if possible lol..

Hahaha, It only needs a switch on the power unit mate. I have this one but I think it's Amber when the LED ring is on...however, Amber is the Bigbottle colour. Is this switch better?

iceman16 I have found this one from a Chinese company, who do direct sales. It does say in the datasheet that it's 250v/3A rated, so *should* be ok. They do blue too. Posting here mainly for opinions from the member...also, I've attached a pic if how AWESOME Orange LEDs look with black casework

As it may take another 2-3 weeks if it comes from China ime.

I may have found a switch!
Located in the UK, properly rated and with a datasheet...
As long as it's ok, I'll snap one up

HoHo! A transformer has landed.... This was supposed to go in fellow member mikeyb BB3, but he has been an absolute legend and let me get iceman16 's built first. He's a good egg... I'll make a start on this tomorrow as I am having a day off from work and HiFi builds. Much deserved too!

Wanted to get cracking on the PSU but yesterday but quickly realised I hadn't yet received all the bits I needed to get going. Whilst dreading the 3 IEC cut-outs I have to do after this one, which usually involved drilling about 30 holes in a square shape and then filling it square by hand, I decided to look for a sheet metal punch. Typically, i couldn't find one which measured 28x32mm, which is what I needed. One suggestion around this horrible job was to buy a dremel (Thanks STD305)and cut it out. Remembering I had a ยฃ100 amazon voucher to use from when we switched broadband providers in February, I snapped up a Dremel 4000 kit: www.amazon.co.uk/Dremel-4000-Attachment-65-Accessories/dp/B0161CFJDS/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=Dremel&qid=1596710566&sr=8-2I will be doing a bit of practice on some scrap sheet metal I have, but I think this is a good solution until my lathe arrives with the milling attachment.....oh yes, I have one of those awaiting collection too, gifted by a consistently generous man, usually in time and advice, now in tools too. Expect threads with dodgy experimental record weights and wonky equipment feet in the future lol.... iceman16I am sincerely hopeful that with some good fortune, this will be finished and in your system by the end of next week. mikeyb, i will start yours as soon as possible.

Looking forward to future installments of Bigbottle product development tomfoolery now! ๐ Well the first "real" attempts with some spare copper sheet have gone fairly well, except the hole is about 1mm too big on all sides..not sure why but I now have a decent plan, I shall try again... More practice before I get on to the real thing though...

Width of the cutting blade? It's a little...unsecured as it's free hand, so it not as easy to be ultra precise. I found marking 1mm smaller on every side left very minimal filing and I got a really tight fit. I'll have another practice, but it looks ok

Last time I made a template by sticking pieces of card together around the socket. Worked well.

Last time I made a template by sticking pieces of card together around the socket. Worked well. Oooh, I like that idea.. I won't have time to get that bit done today, as I'm at work shortly, but I'll be addressing it tomorrow. I will try that. In other news... The Traffo is now anchored down but I haven't got any bolts long enough for the terminal strip... They are now ordered.
