Gentlemen of this Parish. I welcome your suggestions for very high efficiency speakers for my Cheap Chinese Component Concoction system. In an ideal world their high efficiency has to also be equal to an incredibly high level of cheapness. So, I ask you all to embrace the challenge and thrust your suggestions forward (oh-missus). It's not a series system it's one silly old buggers dicking around with cheapo hi-fi components.

I always got told that Tannoys were the dogs for that malarkey you silly old bugger. They are but do you think I'm risking my Tannoy 15" MG to the shear cheapness of these components? I'll be switching these components on wearing four pairs of rubber soled slippers!

that's exactly what I wanted to ask ? Don't get excited! The whole system has to sound as good as we can get it but costing the least amount of money. It's not a series system, it's just simply a forum member messing around with the current crop of Chinese cheapy components. The whole system so far has cost <£150 and we've purchased twor amps, a pre-amp, cables and some alternate valves for rolling.

A few years ago you could have got some Sansui or Pioneer 'kabuki' speakers for fifty quid or thereabouts but looking at ebay prices for them are now into £300/£400 quid territory. Bloody hipsters!

Bloody hipsters! £50 for a pair of speakers, blimey, I'm feeling a bit dizzy just thinking of the expense . Besides, Sansui are Japanese and we know how much the two countries love each other, bad Feng shui man!

It's a subscription only service, sir, we do need to raise funds to buy new slippers whilst testing these cheapy components.

Try some very cheap used PA type speakers Andy, otherwise your best bet might be something like the very affordable Klipsh R51Ms which also sound pretty good too! I would second the suggestion NOT subjecting your 15Mgs to anything that has been on holiday to or made in China, especially if it says "Class D" in the title. Many of the cheaper ones are not properly compensated for the switching phase of the output and I know of many people who've ended up frying their speaker voicecoils when driving these little things hard as a result. Many use half or full bridge "H" circuits these days. With half-bridge circuits the single-supply versions impose a dc bias voltage, VDD/2, which is potentially very damaging across the speaker, unless a blocking capacitor is in circuit. Would I hook mine up to any Class D that wasn't based upon or using a Hypex type core amp? No way!
