Haha only joking. I am only jealous because when I turn on my amp at the moment it sounds like it is going to blow up!

Oh ok then
Open bottles (No cover), potential for 1000V shock from those 1950's AI 1000V death trap valves, open Tx, no emc control, no enclosed casework, no way it would pass a drop test, earth bonding test, immunity test or lets not touch the floor with little provocation with capacitor open soldered joint on the underside of the board, the list is long and deep the insurance claim form will be read very short REJECTED.
Give it to Alan to at least make it safe

Yes agreed it could be a death trap for anyone stupid enough to poke their fingers around it.
However, unless it has changed since I was in gainful employment, a 'component' doesn't need CE marking as it is the finished item that is CE tested and marked. That amp assembly would be classed as a component.

The directives have changed twice in the last 8 or so years Alan, as from next year it will be UKCA stanards and will contain the same directives as the new CE standards that are about or have been to be rolled out Problem is if that has a genuine CE mark then Donald Trump has an IQ of 2005 No way that has a REAL CE in a million years, however if it was DIY kit that you assemble from scratch then yes I would concur, however please do point out basic safety measures for the gent involved as its needs some serious TLC in the keep you safe and well department. Self preservation is a great trait to have

There are very few Chinese components with a true CE mark/certification, as I am sure you know. They even get the spacing incorrect on the 'supposed' CE mark

Well thanks for the doom and gloom. The phonostage arrived today. Should be fun. Will have to wait until the weekend. This has a CE mark on it, whoooaahhh!

Hello again, more messing around with cheapy Chinese components. The system has had a few more things thrown at it. I decided to add a Dorado Super Caps unit to see if this helped things along, I usually use this with my Caiman SEG dac. I also found a couple of Eichmann silver bullets sitting in my spares box, I had to repair one of the RCA's as it had no grounding pin, a small piece of silver and some solder soon cured that. I made a pair of "REAL SOUND" IC's to replace the free camcorder IC's I found at my office. I added a couple of ferrite chokes as well. Well did it do anything?
Well yes it did. Distortion has been reduced quite a bit. Soundstage has widened a little. I've gained a little space between instruments. I can play a little louder. The system is shaping up to be a great little near field system. I've yet to try the little bear phonostage. I'm using CD as my main source but TBH I'm getting a little bored listening to the little plastic discs. I might fire up my Garrard 301 as a source and see how things sound then. Overall I'm having a lot if fun messing around with this system. I should have a new GU32 valve from Lithuania turning up at some point, meanwhile I keep looking on ebay for cheapy 6J1 variants to play around with.
