Prompted by a thread on another forum I would be interested to know do members on here play their music to 'realistic' levels after 9.00pm. I know we don't, music tends to be turned off at 7.30pm when we watch tv. Also how would you feel if you could hear your neighbours playing music later in the evening? I understand we do have quite a bit of spare time when we can listen to music, and working full time is some what limiting, but is that an excuse?

I usually knock it off at 2200. Sometimes maybe go on a bit longer if I really want to listen all the way to the end of an album.
The only neighbour noise that bothers me is crying babies or screaming children. Neighbours playing music is no issue. I quite like because it means that the neighbour is normal.
I had weird neighbours once who did nothing but just sat around staring into space. No radio or telly on, not reading, just sitting there. Very odd. But very occasionally he would do DIY early in the morning - like about 0700, it would sound like he was ripping up the floor boards or something. Only for about an hour, then back to the sitting about.

My TV very rarely gets turned on as I would rather give over all evening to music. Ideally I would have it turned louder at night but the neighbours would get a bit upset so it has to go down a notch or two. Gets turned off at 10pm at the moment.

I’m in the very fortunate position of not having neighbours so I don’t have to worry about it. It’s one of the reasons we moved here so we could be in the middle of nowhere....

If I listen past 10-10.30 I stick my headphones on. Neighbouring couple are quite elderly so wouldn't want to disturb them after this.

I’m in the very fortunate position of not having neighbours so I don’t have to worry about it. It’s one of the reasons we moved here so we could be in the middle of nowhere.... I looked at buying a detached house for that reason. Not that neighbours ever complain here but I am considerate in terms of volume and playing music late on and a detached house would free me from having to make that consideration. I found a detached bungalow for sale at £45K, not far from where I am now. Drawbacks were that it was small - one bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, living room. Although living room was a decent size. Also the place was a total shed, would have needed another £20K spent on it to make it habitable. And it was in an even worse area than the one I live in now. So in the end I passed on it. You can buy a modern detached house round here for about £180K but they are quite small. And it would mean going back to having a mortgage again. Just not worth it on balance.

Agreed it's a big commitment just to be able to play louder when you feel like it....
As you'd probably imagine none of the reasons we chose to move to our current place were music based, that's just a lucky by product. We had to extend our mortgage for the privilege and we'd have been mortgage free by now if we hadn't moved but we decided that the benefits were worth it to us.

Helps if there are two of you to spread the load - and the risk. Been made redundant twice with a mortgage still to pay. As it turned out got more work pretty much immediately but now I'm into my fifties can't really rely on that anymore. Ideally I would like to go back to living in the countryside, or semi-rural at least, but not really realistic now.

Headphones after 8pm. 2x 12" bass drivers on a suspended wooden floor opposite next doors lounge would be a dick move.

Fortunately we don't have any neighbours, one of the main reasons we bought the house.

I have neighbours but my music room is an extension so I can crank it up to reasonable levels - many a time I have been listening at 'reasonable levels' to 4 in the morning

I think my neighbours should pay me a subscription. Where else can you get Nine inch nails medleys absolutely free at 2am ? 🤔

I lived a house where there was a studio flat in the basement directly under my living room, occupied by a couple of students.
One time I put some music on just gone noon and they were banging on their ceiling to get me to turn it off as they were still sleeping. Lazy little bastards, I just turned it up a bit.
My leccy bills were always massive in that house, never could work out why. It was only once I moved out I discovered the basement flat and the house were on the same meter. I'd been paying for their electric for three years.

Maybe that's why they were telling you to turn it down. They wanted to save you some electricity. Damn decent of them I say.🙂

Yeah, late night music is always enjoying. I also love to listen them. How do you enjoy Spotify music? This Spotify app has a great value in the podcast markets these days. Being a premium member for a year I absolutely enjoy it. If you would like to enjoy just try it www.podcasthowto.com/upload-spotify-guide/ Actually, Spotify has some of the best podcasts on the market and it deals with particular podcast networks to publish only to Spotify.

Re neighbors I must be lucky, we're a semi and the speakers and subs sit as far away from next doors adjacent wall as possible in the loft. Also the levels of both floors (their loft and mine as both inhabited) sit slightly staggered to each other by about 2ft so that will help. They have kids too all of similar ages so there's an understanding there, but to be fair we barely hear wall noise from them and they never mention it about us. I let them use our spare parking space on occasion too so that probably gives me a little more leeway. Not too often these days but I couldn't be without my somewhat indulgent listening sessions which could be from 9 to . . . . well, whenever the sun comes up . . . admittedly much less often these days sadly. The music sounds different as I'm likely in a more 'lucid' state, the electrics throughout the house are off or on standby and the world is generally quieter both electrically and audibly at that time, I find it incredibly addictive as the noise floor is so low ALL the nuances of performance can be heard. I find any listening during the day simply doesn't live up to that experience.

Unfortunately the lawlessness that once occupied the house has been returned to a more civilized state of martial law and bed times are regimented. That means 21:00hrs and it's "LIGHTS OUT" for the kids.
