SO......members, jimbo and i were talking of member numbers here at Audio Addicts Forum. It was noted that at any one time, we have around 20-30 members on the site, but have seen over 500 visitors. I checked the last 24 hours and again, we are at over 400 "guests" in that period. This got me thinking. What are they reading? Whats on your Vinyl Grinder? Bigblog Some Pics Of What I'm Using And Not Using Right Now. Bigbottle Phonostage - MK3 Design, Pictures And More! Today I ............. These threads have over 10k views each, so i think its safe to say that we have interesting threads. However, I was sat here wondering.....what tips a Lurker over the edge into a contributing member? I would like to see our forum grow and expand and see a more diverse spectrum of subject matter. Afterall, i like to read other folks content and thats what forums are about! So, how do we convert Lurkers into contributing (content, not money. we dont do that here) suggestions please

Explore the diversity of systems? Any level of performance.

Explore the diversity of systems? Any level of performance. Yes, but who's? Unfortunately, the journey appears to be slowing down for most of us here. Apart from a couple of our members, most of us are settled into our systems. We need new blood, or people on the journey to get that sort of chat going. Sort of unsurprisingly, the niche products we are interested in are a little "exclusive" in terms of listener numbers. Yes, i am massively interested in Paradise builds, Bigbottle news, Neurochrome amplification and things of such nature, but there is a whole raft of folk who haven't heard that stuff and the DIY nature is quite specific. Seems the commercial goods market is still the dominant discussion subject on every other forum. dsjr said this to me ages ago. I knew he was right but i hoped we'd evolve that way naturally

How about a budget systems section for kit under say £200? (or less) Bargin bucket stuff for start ups or newbies. Not everyone starting can or will be able to drop 1k plus on kit.

TBH I will have to think about that . However , I think it's important to remember that this is first and foremost a hifi / music forum . Over the last few months I've been on a couple of other hifi forums where I am a member and they have very little content regarding hifi . The other day I visited one well known forum and found 8 out of 10 of the most recent threads were nothing to do with hifi or music . There was also a few sales threads , but that was it . I'm afraid I don't frequent them much any more

Sort of a guide? Cool....we can do that. Tried twitter....made no impact. Instagram needs loads of pics....which isn't really all that useful

I SUPPOSE the more apt question is 'what do audiophiles want to read about and discuss?' Maybe then we get more member interaction that way.

I will have a look at another very successful forum who concentrate mainly on HIFI and see if I can pick up any threads or topics of interest that appear to be popular we maybe missing. However the fact we get 500 lurkers would suggest maybe a fair amount of what AA does is already popular.

If we did that, this place would be very busy

Most people are happy just to lurk same as in the old days most people just read hifi mags rather than writing letters to them.
For more viewers I reckon it is equipment reviews first - does not have to be current product, can be old or vintage - everyone likes to see the pictures and read what someone thinks of the sound.
Second most popular, 'readers systems'. Again, lots of pics and descriptions of 'how it sounds.'
Everyone's favourite in the magazine days, most mags dropped it as a feature because, like most 'features' articles, it didn't help to shift product for the advertisers.
Third most popular - contentious debates - vinyl vs digital, valves vs solid state, that sort of thing. Although I'm sure we're all bored with them for a long time now.

It's easy to over estimate numbers, guests could be lurkers, they could just be web crawlers/bots.

A question that could also be asked is: why do some members that once posted regularly - don't now? Whatever happened to Dave & Geoff? Somebody piss them off? I liked reading Lemos's posts. He's stopped, apart from some recent activity.

Yep, Reviews seem to be quite a big pull for viewer numbers. Maybe i'll borrow Alans Topping D90 and review it?
